Relic sources

Hello all,
I'm new to this group so I apologize if my post has been discussed before. I recently purchased a half way decent Telecaster knock-off (wife would have my head if I purchased the real thing).

Anyway, I purchased this inexpensive knock-off so that I can attempt to make it a relic project. It's a Honey Blonde finish with a clear poly on the outside so I know I can't really strip down to bare wood. Guitar Re-Ranch mentions using the clear poly as a base and then using Butterscotch Blonde over that. No problem. If you have other suggestions for the body, please let me know.

Additionally, I'm looking for advice and suggestions to age the chrome hardware. For some reason I think I read somewhere that Radio Shack of all places has some kind of solution you can use to age chrome. Is this possible?

Does anyone know of this solution or does anyone have suggestions on a DIY relic project? All suggestions are welcome and thanks in advance for your input!
