Who plays "Sweet Dreams" ?

My friend's daughter - who is a recent Roy Buchanan fan (thanks to me ) - saw the Martin Scorsese film "The Departed" (2006), and thought she heard Roy playing "Sweet Dreams" during end credits.

But I'm sure I've read some place (maybe even on this very forum) that it's a cover version of a more recent date, maybe Jim Campilongo ?

Any of you guys know who's playing ?

I haven't seen the film--yet--but I checked Amazon to see if there's a soundtrack. The soundtrack has Roy Buchanan's version, as well as Patsy Cline's, but I wouldn't be too surprised if there were still another version of the tune in the film.

The song at end credits is Roy Buchanan, and Patsy's version is in the middle of the film.

Those were the only 2 times I heard it in the film.

I know Will Ray did a version on one of the ' Hellcaster's albums.

When I saw the film The Departed, and Roys version of Sweet Dreams blasted out at the end. I ended up staying to sit thru the credits.

Mick Ronson also did a real nice version of Sweet Dreams ala Roy B. Its not the exact same melody or arrangement. But shares a similar approach and tone.

Will Ray sells a CD of backup solo and Hellecaster tracks that includes his version of Sweet Dreams. Jim Campilongo also has a version with Norah Jones on vocals.

I wasn't aware of this... My Girlfriend just rented the movie and the credits are rolling... She's reading something or other by this time... Suddenly, I'm yanking her chain... Debra! Debra! Check this out... Listen to this!

i like to listen to the Roy version and the Will Ray version back-to-back -- for some reason i have an obsessive fascination with the tune itself! didn't know about the Campilongo version -- i'll hafta dig that one up.

woodman, Jim Campilongo has two versions of "Sweet Dreams" available: an instrumental on the Live at Du Nord disc and one with Norah Jones on his CD American Hips. I recommend both of them.

It's on the "American Hips" album by Jim Campilongo. (The song features Norah Jones on vocals, like Rick Towne says).

There also is a tune called "Roy Buchanan's Cousin" on the album.

It's obvious that Jim is a great fan of Roy !

I think Roy played it differently every time. I've a number of live performances of it and each one is different.

Yeah, that was my reaction, too. I think my wife said something like "that's nice dear". Roy's version is sweet, but I love the Will Ray/Hellecasters take on it. Gives me chills every time I hear it.

I have a version saved to my computer that is really nice, I think I found it off this site but don't know who played it. It's my favorite version of this instrumental. I've had it saved for about a year now.

Here's a couple of pictures I took of Roy at the Syria Mosque in Pittsburgh in 1974-75. I'm not real sure of the date but it was during the Livestock tour when Billy Price was singing with him.
