Decals from eBay?
Thanks Buckocaster and Terry Downs for previous threads on decals. However, I'm lazy...
Are any of you fellow TDPRI folks selling custom decals on eBay or otherwise? I've seen these two seller names: samsmom0_1 brauskoh Has anyone used them? I would like to get a custom decal, but don't have the appropriate printer... Thanks! P.S. I know decals have been a controversial subject in the past. I am NOT making a Fender logo. I want to place MY name (no offense Leo) on MY guitar.

Clarification
As a point of clarification, this thread is about folks that can make NON-FENDER decals for the OP.
As you MUST know, any discussion of FENDER decals will instantly be removed and you'll receive an email cautioning you to not post such a thing again. There is a very solid rule about this in the Post Guidelines. You must know these guidelines to participate here. We get very tired reminding people day in and day out that trademarked items like Fender decals are not to be discussed or sourced from the TDPRI. Why? Well, it's not because we're in cahoots with "the man" as many would have it seem. It's a very selfish reason. I, personally, don't want to be sued back to the stone age for being a distribution point for illegal intellectual property. If you like being part of the TDPRI and don't want to see it closed the day after tomorrow, then you will NOT post discussion about how to get, were to find, or how to create FENDER GUITAR DECALS on this website. Period. PS. This topic is fine and not in violation of the rules here, but we've had to remove a couple of Fender Decal posts here and we were thinking of closing the post, but hoped that my posting here would mean that we could keep the thread open. I ordered custom decals (I sent in my design) from both sellers, actually. I had tried contacting both sellers, but neither one was responding to my inquiries - then I won the auction and all of a sudden the communications channels were opened. Money talks, I guess. :)
Just for reference - I won brauskoh's auction on 3/26, and won samsmom0_1's auction on 3/27. Heard back from both sellers on 3/27 - sent in my design. samsmom0_1 was in constant communication (about the file format, dpi, color for the gold fill, etc), and by the end of the day, we had exchanged maybe 10 emails. My decals were shipped the next day (3/28) and they were in my hands as of yesterday (3/31). Quality was awesome! I paid for two decals (of the same design) - I received four. :) brauskoh, on the other hand, upon receiving my file on 3/27, informed me that they would ship by 4/1 (today) at the latest. So I'm still waiting for them. It sounds like both sellers are great, but it seems if you want your decal fast (like yesterday!) and you already have your own design, you might want to go with samsmom0_1. |

Another update, for anyone looking for custom decals:
I sent the decals from samsmom0_1 to the guy making my neck (Louis Varkadoz from www.abcrelicguitars.com) and of the two decals I sent, both dissolved/faded away under the nitro. Took a while to receive the decals from brauskoh, and I noticed that he had actually redesigned the decal for me to make it more Fender-ish. This was nice of him to do, and it did look better than my own work. But for those who are dead-set on having things exactly the way they designed, might want to communicate that. Anyways, I sent brauskoh's decals to Louis, and he didn't have a single problem with them. So there you have it, the end of my custom decal saga. :) |

I have no clue. Louis knows his stuff, and he was as baffled as I was. He applied the decals the same way he's applied all other ones he's done - this one, the finer letterings started to disappear. The larger logos started to fade around the edges.
I had some extra decals from the same seller, and I noticed that the printing looked a little jagged, kind of like ink toner that was scratching off. |

We make our decals using a very thin clear polyester film as a base (approx. 40-50 microns thick). The print is applied using either thermal resin or solvent based inks. The clear film is self adhesive, so we simply remove the protective backing, carefully place the decal in position, and apply pressure.
The decal is then firmly in place, and does not even require any laquer. We often DO apply a clear overspray, just to seal the decal and make the edges less noticeable (not that they are "noticeable" in the first place - they look about the same as a waterslide). I have sent them to folks who have approached me from many parts of the world, and have had emails back from folks telling me that they had been sucessfully clear coated with both acrylic and nitro laquer, so I suspect your problem may have been with the inks used to print your decals? We have never charged for the design work OR the decals (not even postage!) - I think the expression is "Its just a guitarists' thing....". I have, from time-to-time, offered to help out the good folks here at the TDPRI, but nobody (to my knowledge at least) ever took me up on my offer of free decals! Regrettably, due to things that have happened which I would rather not discuss on this forum, I am no longer able to offer that service. However, if anyone ever calls in to see Ol' Fatman in his workshop, the coffee is always on and I'd be pleased to make you a decal - as long as you understand that I will NOT accept any payment for helping you out!

I have an email for a guy who makes my waterslide decals.
Very proffesional work and never had any issues with them. GCharles@hvc.rr.com His name is George Charles. Here are a few samples of the ones I had made for my personal builds. ![]() ![]()

I try to do a light mist on the very first overcoat of the decal. |
