"Made In USA" decal placement
I just purchased a 2003 American Tele. (Z3nnnnn) I've noticed that the "Made in USA" reference is stamped on the back of the headstock rather than the front as I am used to seeing on many others. Can anyone tell me if this is "normal"? Was there a "Z" series made where Fender put this stamp on the back?? Or - does Fender put them where they want to when they want to?? There doesn't seem to be any consistency. I've seen '02's, '03's and '04's . . "most" of which have the serial and or the MIUSA on the front of the headstock. There's currently a '99 out on eBay that has its serial and MIUSA on the back - but - in a different location than mine! Seems kind of odd to me. I just bought this one this week and I wanted to make sure I didn't get stuck with something that has been messed with or altered.

They often put the "Made in USA" on the back of some of the vintage style guitars so the headstock front will look vintage. When Fenders were only made in the USA there was no country of origin on them. What is the exact model you're talking about? I wouldn't be too concerned about the placement.

I just pulled out my 2003 Frontline catalog. The American Standards are shown to have the "Made in USA" on the front of the headstock. The American Deluxe series guitars have the "Made in USA" on the back. Maybe yours has a Deluxe series neck.
