Yeah! Kind of on the gaudy side, but interesting. Almost like tortoise.

I can't remember who posted pics of that "web special" Warmoth (?) body a few days ago- you know the one with the wild grain.

I think that body needs some kingwood and it'd be the squiggliest guitar goin'!

gaud·y1 /ˈgɔdi/ –adjective, gaud·i·er, gaud·i·est.
1. brilliantly or excessively showy: gaudy plumage.

Yep, the whole guitar is like that (I can't post it here). We're using Kingwood on a few more necks also.

I've got a solid Kingwood neck waiting on the Swamp Ash body that Rich Rice is finishing for me, as we speak...! The wood on the neck is not nearly as figured as on the fingerboard above...

FWIW, here's the body (still in progress):

I saw that neck on ebay, very nice. My brother is thinking about a solid kingwood neck for his tele, to replace the maple/rosewood one he has now.

It's a member of the rosewood family and is from Madagascar. The insane grain is on a piece-by-piece basis, although it tends to be fancier than many other species.

I had never seen kingwood before ... That is beautiful wood!
What is the density like - soft like rosewood or is it harder?

Edit:

OH LORD -- why did I click this link. That may just be the most spectacular guitar I have ever seen
...and my wife caught me looking ... and gave me "the look"

Very similar feel/sound to brazilian rosewood. I'm liking it very much. Arlo, how do you like yours?

I have a maple/kingwood neck I'm saving for my own b-bender guitar. I wish I had more time to work on it, but it will be a stunner, too. I decided to go with a flatter 12" radius on it, 6105 fretwire, and clay markers. Looks gorgeous. :)

I owned a couple of PRS rosewood McSoapys, and I *loved* the necks. When I saw this one on the Bay, I said, what the heck, let's give it a try...!

I think it will look killer with that super-fine Mary Kaye finish that Rich is doing!
