I love this guitar. And if things work out in my favor, I'll soon have a Legacy or S-500 in the stand next to my ASAT.

And just to really send you guys over the edge, I also really like my modified Agile AL-200 Blue Flame and really, really wish I still had my modified Squier '51.
I was talking about the US ones. I was also implying that Fender is overpriced as well. In your example the tribute G&L was more expensive as well. The set up depends on where you buy it.

I've only heard good things about the Tributes. I'm glad you like yours, it certainly looks sweet!

I like them, I have a Legacy Maple board 3-bolt. Great guitar ! I am looking at a Rosewood board Legacy from about the same year, Probably will get it soon. I love the head-stock !!! I like it as much Fenders, and I have a few those of as well........

I like the newer G&L's with the more vintage/Classic look too..........

This is about a 2003 Comanche, bi-cut neck, pearloid guard, blueburst, Schaller locking tuners, just over eight pounds, very resonant, immaculate neck just so, love it.

This is one of two Comanches I have, they're remarkable.

I'm interested in the Comanche. I'd like to hear more sound clips of it than what I heard on the G&L site.

Just a note about prices: Adjusting for inflation, all the guitars mentioned are cheaper than new Fenders were when I was in high school in the 70s!

Cheers, Tim

I don't like them enough to buy one; at least not a new one. It'd have to be a pretty special price for me to get one. Plus, that dew claw on the headstock is downright fugly, imo.

My experience with them has been limited as I've only played two ASATs. The first was a Special some years back; nice guitar, great fit and finish, had a really nasty (in a good way) attitude for rock. At the right price I could've really bonded with this guitar

The second and more recent experience was with an ASAT Classic custom shop (or whatever they call them). Gorgeous guitar with a transparent finish on beautifully figured ash--sort of a PRS-like candy finish--tummy cut (worthless to me, I'd rather have an arm contour), natural binding and fat birds-eye maple neck.

This one is also flawlessly constructed, plays great, but weighs a freaking ton. While the sound is in the same ballpark as a tele, it sounds too hi-fi as others have noted. It could partially be due to the DR with JBL I played it through, I dunno. Too heavy, too expensive, too sterile sounding for my tastes.

Love 'em

My guitarist has two G&L strats. The maple strat is indifferent, but the ash strat with Kinman pups is absolutely fantastic in every way. If I weren't building my own (READ: if I could afford to buy one...), I'd have the same combo as a tele.

I guess I'm easy, I like my Comanche a lot, and my Fenders too. Happy I don't have to choose one over the other.

I've owned quite a few G&L guitars over the years. I've always been impressed with the build quality, but I've never had one that I regretted selling. At the end of the day, I guess they're just not my cup of tea.

TheKillingJoke, I apologize, I've been pouring all my time into building and modding, learning to post pictures, writing and practising.
Next year, with the help of my nephews I hope to get into modern digital recording and mp3 utilization. I still listen mostly to tapes and CDs and own no I-pod. And I'm frustrated that I'm 'forgetting' some compositions that need to be diaried some kind of way.

I just ordered a Bluesboy and thus joined this forum. The headstock is...uh....different, but I also own 3 Heritage guitars, so I guess headstocks don't bother me much.

My avatar tells the story but my 07 Tribute ASAT is the best Tele I have played yet. It's hands down a better guitar to me than my 2002 52ri in EVERY way. Its got way more bass response.

Sonically superior too any Tele to my ears. It's like Tele on steroids. Huge deep bass cowboy Pete Anderson type sound with plenty of twang up front. Basically does everything I love about the Tele, only more and better. Best of all it does it with a lightning slick satin finished neck with no response to sweat. Hey I love em all. I will buy more of both Fender and G&L. I have my eye on an EJ strat right now. I can tell you since I bought the ASAT Tribute I haven't hardly touched my 50's CP Strat.

took me awhile to get to like the headstock too but now I actually like it better than fender. Its got charachter. Don't know where G&L gets there woods but they sure seem superior to Fenders. Leo got it right the second time too for sure. There are bad Fenders but I've yet to handle a bad G&L. Even the 400 dollar Tributes are geat players right off the shelf and the gig bag is superior to Fenders. Less Corporate crap and mass production mentality with G&L.

It's all about personal tastes and I just can't stand any o' them G&L's - hate the headstock, and thick skinned finishes, and worse yet are the horrible toned single coil pickups, along with summa the dumbest controls, and those more-hype-than-happening Commanche noiseless "Z" pups sound anemic at best. I'd rather have an Affinity butterscotch and some dollars in my pocket for upgrades. YMMV.

.....when I like the plain "soapbar" type MFD pickups, but those Z-coils are the most caustic sounding pickups I've EVER heard in my life.

However, I'm not a fan of Squiers either, particularly Affinities.

I bought a G&L Bluesboy last spring and the pickup combination of the tele bridge with a humbucker in the neck makes for a great variety of sounds. The middle position with both pu's is extra crunchy. Playability is fantastic as well.

Well I also used to hate them (but w/o trying them) for their funny looks but during the last 6 months I've bought......ehmmmm three of them (I know,I know... ) and they ALL twang like crazy (as long as you put those killer pups LOW )

The build quality is out of this world and they play and sound great.

CHEAP too (if you can find them used)

Me too, I'm very interested in the Comanche, I'd like to try the neck. I hear you can get them 3 d
