Yep!

I like mine, anyway. It's a 96 ASAT Classic in a beautiful honeyburst with fantastic ash grain showing through prominently. I swapped the pickups though and swapped the 6-saddle bridge for a 3-saddle Glendale - all is well. Fantastic guitar - great, great neck. I've played some G&Ls that I didn't like very much but the same goes for Fender. When you find a great guitar, you know it every time.

Love my ASAT Jr.
Nice and light, great tone and a neck to die for.

GTRmn911, You ever seen a Melancon? One of the guys who frequents our store, who has more money than sense, custom ordered one, Mary kaye style, hollow see thru white, gold hardware, special Pups- came out to 2700$. He got it, played it at the store, took it home and never touched it again, six months later, I picked it up fer a Grand, which I worked off at the store. It is a phenomenal git! Once I figure out how to post pics on here (URL?!), I'll post my collection, i got some nice ones

Hey Sarge, to post a pic in a thread post, if the pic is already uploaded to the web, you put a left bracket followed by the letters "img" followed a right bracket, then by the URL, and at the end of the URL you again put a left bracket, followed by a slash /, the letters img again, and close with a right bracket.

No spaces.

You can also do the same thing by using the little "picture" button (looks like a little postcard with a picture of the mountains and a yellow sky) that appears above your post window when you are composing a post.

Click on the word "Gallery" in the blue menu bar above – you can start your own gallery and upload pics directly from your computer. Hope it helps, CS

About g&l teles ,I've got a july '93 issue of "guitar player" magazine titled "gods of the telecaster";they screened 32 fender telecasters and tele copies(20 pages of tests!).....I'll cut to the chase and tell you who the winner is:(p 110)
"finally, the g&l asat classic scores our coveted wham for the wampum award.time and again, players of all persuasions were drawn to this guitar saying"this is the one I'd buy;it's got the twang."

They seem to be well made. I've yet to play one that makes me go, "Wow....", however. They all give me a certain sterile feel similar to that of PRS guitars.

I recently bought a tribute ASAT special as a back-up to my MIM tele. For about the price of a new MIM standard (at least, here in Maritime Canada), this thing has a two piece ash body, beautiful transparent honey blonde finish, and solid, heavy hardware. Everything about the guitar says 'quality' and I chose is because of how it compared (and contrasted) with the standard teles a tried.

And my wife thinks its pretty too. She didn't say anything about the headstock.

It's a very versitile guitar with sensitive controls that significantly alter the tone of the pickups, and I play it all the time. No need for any mods whatsoever (that's a real bonus for clumsy me!) and imo it proves that Leo's contributions to the world of affordable guitars continued after the 1950s.

While I am a tele fanatic, I do have other guitars.

However I do not consider my ASAT Classic an 'other' guitar.

In my view it is an evolved tel.

Some people may think that evolution is an improvement, some don't, it's a personal preference thing.

The fact is that Leo was an experimenter and the G&L was the means for him to continue to express himself.

I like my G&L bridge in particular. I like the fact that when I ordered the thing I was given the choice of a wider and fatter neck at no extra cost.
The pups are much louder than fenders and while they still have the 60 cycle issue it's not as bad as some of the Fenders. The 'voice' is different but it's still very much a tele.

My ASAT has absolutely no issues.

If I was only allowed to keep one of my guitars, it certainly would be a strong contender.

I want to like G&L guitars. I have a Tribute Legacy that has a great sound and is very playable. But, I have another one that's been on order since August. This delay has soured my opinion, and I have been wanting to get rid of the one on order.

I waited like 6 months to get my asat classic;i had ordered it through my local music shop and wanted a tele so badly that during all this waiting time i tried every tele i could find and compared them to the asat classic that belonged to the music shop owner(given to him by Doyle Dykes);my friend used to call me every time he got a new telly in his shop and I would A/Bed it against the asat.I sure would have bought one of them if I liked it better;that never happened!when I finally got my guitar I knew for good it was special and worth the wait!

Time to resurrect this thread for new members like me to chime in.

I think G&L in many ways makes better guitars than current Fender production, especially for the price. I have a G&L ASAT Classic Bluesboy and it's an incredible guitar that cost under $1000 new. The quality is superior to any MIA Tele I've played in the same price range. In addition, the neck is Pleked and just feels right. I also think the stock pups sound fantastic. Granted, it's not a traditional Tele sound, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. The Seth Lover pup in the neck is just sweet as can be for bluesy lead tones. Simply awesome guitars as far as I'm concerned.

I agree totally with XKnight. I just got a 99 ASAT Deluxe. Awesome build quality, fit and finish. Sounds as good as it looks and plays. Most "new" MIA Tele's I've picked up and played can't compare. JMO

I do like 'em, I like 'em a lot.

This is about a 2003 Comanche, bi-cut neck, pearloid guard, blueburst, Schaller locking tuners, just over eight pounds, very resonant, immaculate neck just so, love it.

This is one of two Comanches I have, they're remarkable.

One more vote from a new, new member.

My 2002 (leastways, I bought it in 2002) ASAT Classic Bluesboy has the dark sunburst finish with rosewood neck. I bought it to try out the rosewood fingerboard and the neck humbucker- after I couldn't put it down at the store (not a GC!). It's my favorite; 2nd is my Epi Tele, then my tobacco-sunburst/vintage-necked custom Warmoth (designed by me and assembled mostly by a guitar tech/friend), THEN my mid-90s AM Tele. Apparently, I have to hold onto the Fender Tele to maintain my eligibility to post here...

I have zero issues with the G&L headstock. That it doesn't match the Fender is a bonus.

Above members who opined that they're good-lookin', yup, playable, oh yeah, and sound better than a Fender, that's my sometimes opinion, also, but it depends on the tune, but maybe mostly cuz I play solo and don't have to balance tone with a band.

I had a couple over the years. I had an old 83-84 Skyhawk, which is kind of Strat-like. A very bright guitar. Later I had a real eye-catching Lake Placid Blue Legacy that just would NOT sound like a Strat no matter what you did to it. It was too bright and ice-picky, with no bottom end.

I've enjoyed playing some, hated some, but never found one that I would trade even my least favorite Tele for.

The USA ones certainly sound meaty, but none available in my neck of the woods to try. Unsure about the 7.5 radius fretboard.

I like G&l's a lot.
I changed a strat deluxe FMT(USA), ebony fingerboard , scn pups ,for a G&L S500.
My S500 has birdeye maple neck , oil rubbed etc. Alder body, threetone sunburst
Tusq nut.
I found the pups a bit to
