I just wanted to say hello and thanks for all the great info I've found so far.
I have been playing acoustic guitar on and off in a two piece band for about 10 years, performing traditional Scottish and Irish tunes. I've recently been trying focus more on electric guitar and other styles of music. My musical interests are bands like The Cure, Elvis Costello and The Clash. I've also been interested in learning rockabilly and blues. I've had my Gretsch for a year now and have been looking for a solid body to compliment the sound as well as give me new options. I had my search narrowed down to the Tele, Rick 620, and a Jazzmaster. I've been lurking unregistered and learned a great deal from you all that really help in my decision. But two events in recent weeks pushed me to make a choice. I recently stumbling on a great deal for a 2003 American Deluxe that I just couldn't pass up but it was hearing John Leventhal at the Rosanne Cash concert in DC that really convinced me. I was so focused on his playing that I can't even tell you if Rosanne Cash was actually singing that night I do have a question about a tremolo technique he used. He didn't have a Bigsby or other tremo installed, nor could I see the hardware for a b-bender. He would put his hand just forward of the volume knob and bend the note. The only thing I could think was he was bending the neck. It just seemed more pronounced than I've heard when others have done that.
