Middle Pickup activated by 3rd Pot
Hi @ All,
I'm new here. This is my first post and this is my question: Until these days I activated my middle-pickup by a little switch situated between the 2 pots. Watching a Brent Mason video I saw that his Tele has 3 Pots on the plate. He talked about it and said that with the pot in the middle he's blending in the middle-pickup. Well, I tried that, too. But with an unsatisfying result. I soldered ground cable on the cap of the pot. Then the hot wire of the middle pickup to input and an output has been soldered to the input of the main volume pot. But this way the middle pot reduces allover volume, too. I can't blend just the middle pup in when turning the knob. Has it something to do with the ground? What do I do wrong. Does anyone know a way to blend in the middle pup smoothly? Thank you in advance. Kind regards Hannes |

Not sure where I saw it but somebody had Brent Masons wiring chart for his Tele to do this job within this site. Have a search re. Brent Mason Telecaster wiring etc. It is possible. As I recall also he had .500 pots instead of .250's,
and it was set up on a three way switch ! |

Thank you, Telewringer.
I found the 'Mason wiring' thread. It's sort of difficult for me to understand this: 'HOWEVER, IF you want to be able to play the mid pup solo, you could simply rewire the "main" volume pot, reversing the leads from the pup selector switch and output jack - so that it is wired like the mid pup's volume (the "blender"). This change will make the the two volumes completely independent, and you will be able to shut either one off with no effect on the other.' Is it that: Just change 'input' and 'output ' soldering point on the first (main) volume pot? Sorry, folks, my English has got a little bit rusty... just like the screws on the bridge... __________________ |

Hey Guys,
The Brent Mason wiring diagram is on the Seymore Duncan website. This should take you to it: http://www.seymourduncan.com/website...ele_blend.html This should do it. Doc W |

I had a tele with a push pull 3rd pot for the middle pickup blending. It was a novel concept but not really anything that was very usefull to me, so I went back to the standard 2 pot thing. I learned I like simple.

Is that a tele bridge pickup you stuck in the middle there? What brand/model are the pickups? Do you get some quack out of it?

That quote seems amazingly familiar... "Is it that: Just change 'input' and 'output' soldering point on the first (main) volume pot?..." YUP. Just wire BOTH volumes the way they tell you to wire the mid-pup's blender volume. Like this: ![]() This is how Epi wires most of their volume pots anyway - when you have two pups with seperate volumes playing, it allows you to turn either of the volumes all the way OFF without muting the whole axe.
