my first Tele (USA 1988)
Hi there
I just got my first Tele, thanks to those who offered me advice in my hunt. Iwas very close to buying a highway one and played one and really liked it, but they were so back ordered here (canada) and then I found a 1988 (serial E807820- I think they told me it was an 1983- lightly used for $900 CDN with a hardshell case- the HWY were about 150 CDN more with a bag only. Mine is a rose wood on black with what appears to be a cream pickguard- I am not sure If I'd prefer the peral white, plain white toroiseshell or even a black to this one...Anyone seen black with cream before? It looks good - it just looks different to m eye. I will post a jpeg soon. Any thoughts on the deal I got? Graham |

1st tele
Don't really know if that is good deal or not, but I agree with the creme and black combo. I'm building an Esquire right now that will be black and sport an off white/creme pickguard. Black teles and esquires just look cool to me

Sounds like a great deal. Looking forward to seeing the pics and congrats!
P.S. Should you ever tire of that guitar and want to unload it for that price, I can drive out there in a flash!

Hi!
I have a rosewood boarded 1988 tellie as well, (in midnight wine). A fun thing for you to know if you didn't might be that that was the first year for what is now reffered to as the "American standard telecaster". I think they are great guitars! 9.5" necks with medium jumbo frets and they also had done some modefications to the tone control. I actually like the glossy necks on these better than the matte finished necks of todays standards. But that is just a personal preference of course. I think you did great!
