There don't seem to be any USA dealers at the moment from what I can tell, but there are in Canada.

They seem to be trying to get something going in the USA, but I can't seem to find anyone selling them yet.
Pete,

Here in the UK, Tokai guitars seem to have taken a few twists and turns. The now (in)famous 'BreezySound' Tele copy which, if I remember rightly, sparked off the lawsuit, is no longer available in its original format.

I have seen some Tokai T-style guitars at various stores in the UK, but the newer ones now sport a rather ugly headstock... Those I have played have been somewhat disappointing, and the quality seems to be way down on the old BreezySound models. They look quite nice though - the pics below show two T-style "Customs" (double bound like the 62 Custom). You can see the headstock shape....

According to the Tokai UK website, they seem to be only offering Les Paul, PRS and SG type solid bodies, but SOME UK stores still have Tele & Strat copies (as well as rather poor Rickenbacker copies) for sale....

Believe it or not, Tokai owners even have their own Tokai Forum. Talk about stealing a great idea!...

Am I the only one with a Samick?

Mine is a Greg Bennett signature model and it's actually very nice, more of a Tele style than Tele copy. It's like the Samick Formula but I've never seen another with dual humbuckers (they're stock). The body is slightly narrower at the top bout than a Fender, and they didn't even bother with an inline headstock (angled, 3+3 Grovers). The transparent teal finish with a cream bound quilt top is excellent, hardware is good, SD design pickups are okay, the pots and switch may get replaced. Overall as nice and in some areas better than an MIM Fender.

Great copies!

I play a Hamer Slammer Tele and really dig it. I don't think Hamer makes these anymore, but it suits me just fine. I will be installing a set of GFS Modern Vintage Lil Puncher's this weekend.

About five or six years ago I owned a Yamaha Pacifica Tele-copy. I really loved playing this guitar too, until somebody stole it out of our church... bummer!

I would sure like to try some of these other guitars that I see in this thread. The Tokai stuff sounds great.

Peace,

Bob

Sneaky........... It appears some of those Japanese companies aren't concerned about the headstock trademark infringement. I assume those guitars are not sold in the USA. I was suprised to see the trademarked headstock on the Seymour Duncan brand guitar since he has a working relationship with Fender.

I just hopped-up a Squire Affinity Telecaster with a Dimarzio Twang King pickup in the bridge.
It's the most aggressive sounding guitar I ever touched..ZZ Top look out!

Lemme see here.....

....

Honner made some good copies, i used to have an early 80's played like a charm

Schecter has made several good ones, I have a limited edt goldtop tele, it's just cool

Blade has some good copies, I have one with a set of rather early Lewinson pickups, extreeme sustain and rich tone.

Harley Benton has a couple of decent ones kinda low budget but they work

Best tele copies depends on what price range you're talking about. I love my Nashville Tele Rob put together for me, it's by far the best Tele I have played, but I am sure that Vinetto and the likes of them guitars are pretty good too

I have an ASAT Special Tribute with the soapbar sized MFD pickups. It has a semi-hollow swamp ash body, very fast neck with a matte satin finish. It does the "Twang" thing real well, but has enough balls to play some pretty heavy Rock & Roll as well.

I liked it so much I ordered a standard ASAT Tribute with the Tele-sized MFD pickups. This time I spec'd out an ASAT with a maple fretboard and a solid swamp ash body. I have played several of these in the past that were nice and light as a good piece of swamp ash should be and very resonant too. I got these ASATs for 400 each out the door. They really are a lot of guitar for the money.
