Impressive 52RI
I've had my 52RI for almost a year and a half now, and I've been in love with it from the start, and it's only getting better. It's dated jan.2004 and has a rather chunky U-neck and very modest visible grain, which I personally prefer.
The grain is more pronounced on the backside and especially on the bottom end however, which makes it easy to identify as a 2-piece body. (I will eventually get my son help me post some pictures !) As I have "retired" as an active musician, it's being played almost exclusively at home, and mostly unplugged. (It has a big tone and great sustain.) Yesterday(saturday night) I attended the annual "Skyfestival" for the second year, however. It's a private festival/garden party sort of thing, with both amateurs and some of the country's best musicians coming together for some great time and some good playing. As also was the case last year, I was lucky enough to jam with the country's best banjo picker, who is also a monster guitar player, both on accoustic and electric. We played mostly blues stuff however, with both of us on electrics. I played my 52RI through my brand new Tweed Blues Deluxe RI, while he used his 25th Anniversary Strat with a Warmoth neck and specially wound pickups - very hot - through an old Fender Concert amp with a new Jensen 12" speaker. But while he had his amp on full blast, I had my volume on just above 3, and my Tele still cut through the mix, and some Roy harmonics were flying through the air almost at own will ! WHAT A GUITAR, and WHAT AN AMP ! Very impressive indeed ! Though it was a very wet evening, with some serious rain at times, the festival was a great success. (Folks were sitting in a BIG open tent with the stage in one end.) My Tele was located on it's stand from five o'clock till around midnight, except when being played, either by myself - and I do some serious bends - or by a rather famous (in Norway) singer/songwriter, who borrowed it for playing rhythm guitar in his own band. (And remember, the conditions were very humid !) When I came home an hour after midnight, I put the Tele on it's stand beside the TV where I always keep it, and today I gave it a thorough polish, and started to strum it, and lo and behold : it was still perfectly in tune ! I mean - I tuned it before going to the festival, but I didn't touch the tuners all evening, and two different players really spanked the he.. out of it - and it still was perfectly in tune ! That's what I call impressive ! Maybe this is quite normal for a great Tele, but remember I've only gigged twice in one year with this guitar, so to me it's real impressive, anyway. Thanks for your patience......... |

Cool testimonial to the Tele design stability.
Once my strings are stretched out, both my Tele and Musicmaster are very stable for tuning. Temperature changes effect them some, but that's probably just the strings reacting. |

that's neat when that happens-
I've played my old Silvertone only a few times in the last couple of years. I pulled it outta the gig bag last week after not touching it for 6 months or so. Perfectly in tune. Not bad for a 40 year old Bigsbyed Department Store Guitar.
