Fender Scorpion Esquire

Yeah, I know - very death metal. How is the quality on these? I think one would sound great with a TV Jones HB-sized Filtertron. It has a real ZZ Top vibe, but I can't afford one of those ltd. edition Z Esquires

If lawyers are disbarred and clergymen defrocked, doesn't it follow that electricians can be delighted, musicians denoted, cowboys deranged, models deposed, tree surgeons debarked, and dry cleaners depressed?

I had one briefly (I really need two pickups though).

Really great ebony fingerboard! Great build quality. The Koreans have matched the Japanese lately, I think.

The Scorpion Esquire may be a rare bird. It appears production began and ended in 2003.

Hmmmmmmm.....................

Don't pick it up much. A little too light for me.

I think Fender never should have put the Esquire moniker on it. Maybe they should have done the "Tele-Sonic" type of name. Kind of resembles it in shape, but in no other way.

When I have that "Tele" feeling, I don't reach for that. That is something I'll hold on to b/c I like it for the guitar it is, not b/c it's a Tele or Esquire in anyway.

As far as the Scorpion, I don't know how different it is aside from the color.

I would have delivered that thang! Or, like you said, at least held it for ransom until you came to get it...the show my band is doing with Rockin'Carl's band would have been a good time!

Hope you love it, Miles! Looking forward to a review

Played the Scorpion in a band setting for the first time last night. OMG - the sustain!!!! I don't even miss the tone knob. My drummer (a multi-instrumentalist in his own right) fell in love with it, and made me promise to leave it to him in my will.

I'm convinced. May even leave the stock pickup in there.

Uh, I remember a promise of some pics? :)

Just what sort of pickup is in it? String through bridge? Never heard of one of these things...

Jelly - picture is at post #18. That is my actual guitar, not just one like it. Yes, string thru bridge, like a hardtail Strat. I heard it is a Fender Atomic humbucker, but I haven't been able to verify it yet. It is very fat amd warm, although I can get a satisfactory twang out of it wen I flip the bright switch on my Vibrolux.

The Atomic Humbucker sounds good split, so if you do want a little bit more variety you can do that. I had one in a plywood Hondo/Peavey bastard guitar with a Kahler and the Atomic Humbucker was out of a Fender Cyclone.
