neck size on muddy waters tele?

I've been told these are same size as a '62 tele reissue. which begs the question, what is the neck size of a '62 tele reissue?

According to Fender :
Muddy Waters Tele: Maple, “C” Shape, (Satin Polyurethane Finish)

60s Classic Tele: Maple, “C” Shape,(Gloss Polyurethane Finish)

I have a Muddy Waters Tele and the neck is amazing, I've got big hands and the neck is near perfect. If you want I can measure the neck and give you the specs....

thanks, I don't think I need the measurements. I was hoping it would be a bigger neck, as I like them substantial. I take it Fender C-neck is a healthy chunk of wood then. That's what I wanted to hear.

What Fender describes as a C (60s Classic)...is sure not what I consider a Large neck..don't know about Muddy's....U is more of a Chunky type neck...think MIM 69 reissue...50s Classic....52 RI....James Burton Std.

It's substantial. I think the 'C' and 'U' and 'V' designations are to do with shape only. The Muddy's 'C' profile is more-or-less like a modern US tele shape-wise but thicker. More 'meaty'.
It's my favorite type of tele neck. A very comfortable and playable handful.

Ahhh, the Muddy's neck. Just perfect, one of the pleasant surprizes of the Muddy. The neck is damn near perfect, not sure of the radius. Now if I could just get use to the neck pup. The bridge pup is killer, but the neck just seems to lack something.

I love the Muddy Waters neck, but I wouldn't call it "Big", maybe just "Bigger". "Big" to me is rreserved for the Boatnecks and 1" stuff. I'll even let the 52RI necks go with "Big". The Muddy is not near those dimensions, but it's still as comfortable a rosewood board neck as I've seen on any production model. I've had both a US 62RI and a Muddy and I thought the Muddy felt more substantial - not a lot, but enough that I sold the 62 and the rest of the Muddy, but kept the neck for a project Tele (never liked CAR).

thanks, all. I had a chance on a Muddy tele for a great price, with an aftermarket neck pup, but I did not pull the trigger and somebody beat me to it.

I used to own a '99 Classic '60s Strat, '01 Classic '60s Tele, and an '02 Muddy. Besides the radius and fret difference of the Muddy, all three had almost the exact same size and shape necks.

I could live with an after market in the neck...the bridge pick up is what makes the Muddy shine...plus the neck.

The Muddy was a bit heavier that the other two, it's ash. It wasn't a tank though. I have heard that there are some tank Muddys out there. The '60s Strat was Poplar and the '60s Tele was Alder. They both weighed about the same and were on the top end of light weight, maybe the bottom end of medium. Ulitmatly, none of them did it for me. All three had neck heel hump and I was never able to get them to play to my likeing. All three felt pretty darn stiff with 10s. The pickups in the Classics were terrible IMO. Thin and ice picky. The pickups in the Muddy were fantastic at home, but I didn't gel with them in the band. At this point I pretty much stay away from any Fender made past '84, with a strong prefrence to '78-'80. The exception being my EJ Strat...the EJ may possibly be the best guitar I have ever played.

The EJs I've played definitely turned me back onto Fender again. Now if they just had a rosewood fingerboard with that neck, yummmm

Nah, the neck on my Muddy Tele is far from 'fat'. Its a skinny neck. The shape is a 'C' shape, but its not a beefy neck at all. I consider a beefy or fat neck to be 1" thick at the nut and somewhere close to that at the 12th fret. I don't know what the measurement of the Muddy Tele is, but it isn't very close to that. All my other guitars (Tele's and Strat's) have fat/beefy necks on them and a 'C' shape.

It reminds me alot of the neck that was on a '62 reissue Strat I used to have. It was one of the early ones from the late 80's. Skinny neck.

Strat-O is on the mark. I found very little difference between the Muddy Neck and the American Standard/Series/Deluxe necks. One in the same.

Actually, I think the Muddy is the best tele available for the money. AS neck, ash body, vintage hardware. And you can find them for less than 500 bucks if you look around. It is the best bang for the buck.

Of course it needs a set of chrome domes. Them amp knobs ain't right.
