The service for Jerry Gray in Hempstead today

I posted this in the thread under Jerry's passing but I just figured I would start a new thread and cut and paste my other post in here.

"I could make this long but I just don't have the energy at the moment. But I thought I'd just shoot off a quick post.

I walked in and saw the casket and sitting off to one side was his 52RI on a guitar stand. On the other side was the picture that Mike Rice worked up from the first HV TDP jam.

The place was packed with young and old. Everyone who spoke did an outstanding job - even one higher up in the Salvation Army who kept refering to Spanky as Gary...?

Jerry's son got up and spoke and did a man size job - really touched everyone in the room with his humor and forth-rightness and love for his father.

The lasting impression that I left with was a family pulling together during a tragic time. On that sight, I am sure that Jerry was looking down with pride."

I forgot to mention that as I passed the casket and his guitar, I had reach out and twang that low E string.

Vince

I'm glad at least one of us was able to be there. Ian and I attended the viewing Tuesday night. His wife mentioned that the photo of Jerry with his tele would be shown prominently at the funeral. They were also quite touiched by the outpouring of sentiment displayed here.

His family has inherited Jerry's gift for music, 2 of his sons play guitar, a third plays saxophone.
