Sure is a gaggle of Teles
I was just leafing through the '06 catalog. Thing is darn near as big as the old Sears & Roebuck catalog. There are something like 45 variations of Tele for sale.
When I got my first one, you could pick from 3 (Esquire, Tele & Custom) and could choose either maple or rosewood and from a handful of colors. Life sure has gotten complicated. As anyone actually tried even 1/2 of the models available? I don't even think I could find 3/4 of them.

The most popular grass roots modifications seem to keep them busy with new models of everything.
Kinda cool in a way. I enjoyed my Telesonic (short scale with old slug type DeArmonds) while I had it, but "normal" Tele's are so versatile, I'm not sure the limited choices of old weren't perhaps best. At least as a qualifier before you're allowed to change them. My Tele makes me play a certain way. I'm still trying to get THAT down. |

Even better, remember when Martins came in just a few body sizes and only two trim options? 00-18, 000-18, 000-28, D-18 and D-28 were about it for most of the 50s, 60s, and 70s.
Of course back in those days there weren't many types of Fords, Chevies, or Dodges either. I'm a simple person. If today Fender offered a paisley, double-bound sunburst, a blonde-type, and custom colors at +10% (all with maple neck of course) I would be happy. |

If this is the Fender "Frontline" catalog, Guitar Center or other retailers usually have them, for free. I've seen them on Ebay for about $5.

I'm pretty sure zombywoof is talking about Frontline, which is the only catalog Fender makes AFAIK. You can get one, if they have any left, from any Fender dealer for free.
EDIT: csapo beat me to it.... |
