Anyone know anything about this guy? The website is a little hard to navigate: www.thisoldguitar.net
I found the add here on TDPRI.

I don't know anything about him, but he can get a little carried away with the arm rub "wear". Some of his guitars that are reliced to a lesser degree look like they may be decent guitars for the price. Does he have a SATISFACTION guarantee? If you are unimpressed when you receive the instrument and don't feel like it is worth the money can you return it? I see where he has a parts warranty and free setups, but what if in your opinion the guitar looks stupid when you get it?
I am a Fender Nocaster Relic owner ('99). I didn't buy the guitar to fool anybody. I bought it because it was (and still is) the best Telecaster I ever picked up. The finish "worn" off the neck and fretboard have a lot to do with the good feel of the guitar. I must say that my Relic job ranks with the best that I have seen, but I didn't buy it because it looks old. I just shared that Nocaster part to let you know that I'm not an avid pro- or anti-relic person. If it's a good guitar the relic job may help the feel by "wearing" the goopy finish off the back and fretboard of the neck. |

Hello Hello--
I do lots of vintage restoration and new lacquer finishes and have also done "relics" for years [on request... I don't really advertise it at the "Otto's" site...]. I relic all of the stuff I build for myself for exactly the same reasons that Spudroc mentioned. I've played old guitars all my life and the feel is very important to me....can't get it with new guitars. I put together a $400 "'53 Esquire " relic as an experiment to see if I could duplicate the original '53s and '54s that I've owned and it came out VERY good........a good guitar CAN be made from inexpensive parts. [Actually, I've been doing it for years but this one I wanted to have the looks AND feel AND be cheap!. All of this stuff directly affects the playability of the guitar and is not meant to fool anyone into thinking it's an original [besides, I don't go THAT far with the looks, anyway.] Brian. |
