Not saying he is one of the top 5 tele players, but...
Jim Messina's playing during Loggins and Messina was what made me first take notice of a tele.
I was pretty much a Les Paul & Stratocaster guy up until then (Marshall too!). I still love listening to his work from back in the day. Have to say I was dissappointed to see him using a Strat in the Loggins and Messina "Sitting In Again" dvd, but the overall musicianship in that concert (outstanding!) helped assuage this feeling.
