Intonation
Mr. Gearhead on the Fender website has instructions on how to set up a guitar. I also believe Seymour Duncans website has something on it also. When you adjust intonation you are shortening and lengthening each string so your guitar is "in tune" with itself. On a guitar tuned EADGBE you would want the 12 fret position of each string to also be EADGBE, one octave higher. There are many opinions on which fret to set intonation with. Another example would be at the 5th fret of the low E you have A. At the 17th fret you should also have A, just an octave higher. This is adjusted using the screws at the bridge that move the string saddles front to back. If your octave note is sharp you would lengthen the string (move away from the neck), if it is flat you would shorten it (move toward the neck). You will have to retune the guitar after each move of the saddles and check again until it is right. I am probably making it sound harder than it really is. You should first adjust or at least check the neck relief and set your string height first. You will need a decent tuner and a fresh set of strings. While setting intonation on my guitars I also check the 12th fret harmonic for pitch. Good Luck
