Campilongo sighting...

Sorry if this is kind of long but...
I saw Jim C last Sat night at the Ivy Room in Albany,CA. I've been wanting to see him for years and finally got a chance.
What a show! He walked in a little after 10 pm (his drummer and stand-up bass player were already set up) with his Tele in one hand and what looked like a silverface Deluxe Reverb in the other. He's strictly a guit-cord-amp guy.
But... the variety of tones he got out that simple set-up was amazing!
I sat about 30' from him and tried to figure out everything he was doing but I was just mystified by a lot of the sounds I heard. He was pinging harmonics and then bending behind the nut, getting whammy sounds without a whammy bar, playing chords and then bending one or two strings while holding the chord, etc.
The most surprising thing to me was he picked up close to the bridge most of the time. He would vary his right-hand position slightly to vary the tone. He'd also switch pick-up positions frequently for more variety of sounds.
The most impressive thing about this guy is that he's virtually 'cliche' free'. I mean he's got a totally original style which is about the highest praise I can give any musician.
What I'm trying to say is if you get a chance to see this guy, do it! 8)

The most impressive thing...

about seeing him live is that he seems really appreciative of the people who come out to see him.
Man, I wanted to talk to him so bad but he was surrounded by friends and fans and I didn't want to bother him too much.
He did sign his new CD for me (which is really good).
