History of the Telecaster's pickup wiring?
This is something I've been wondering about for quite sometime...
Why did it take until 1967 for Fender to modernize the Telecaster's pickup wiring? I can understand the need in the 50s for the preset bassy tone position, but were there that many Tele players that desired it throughout the 60s? |

Old habits...
Hindsight is always easy.
Folks at the time were used to the old wiring, even though I can't remember ever using the bassy forward position myself. But it was the mark of the Telecaster, one thing that set it apart from other guitars. I guess Leo eventually changed the wiring after a lot of players had rewired their guitars or used the "in-between" positions for a number of years. |
