Do i still need shielding even if i have a chrome pickguard?

I noticed that those pickguard shieldings are made out of chrome... so is there any point of me buying one at all?

I've had better luck cutting noise in single coil guitars by using RW/RP pickups, than with shielding. Because even if I shield the crap out of the guitar, the pickups are still noisy. And then the guitars kind of sound wrong with too much shielding anyhow.

Maybe other people are having better luck with shielding, but I stopped using the stuff. I'm taken to the "warts and all" approach, and now the guitars seem more alive.

I'm relatively new at this but confused. About 6 months ago I asked here if there was any down-side to shielding and if not how come everyone didn't do it. The replies I got seemed to say shielding was the greatest thing since 2-ply toilet paper and everyone SHOULD do it. Now you seem to be saying it's hardly worth the effort.

To shield or not to shield, that is the question.

Ok. But I haven't been here that long. I'm a TDPRI newbie.

I don't want to say anything to get the shielding fanatics all riled, but it just hasn't made that much difference for me as far as reducing noise goes because the pickups are what make the most noise, and the wiring only seems to add a little.

Now, if you want to hear some noisy pickups, P90 pickups make a Tele seem like the Cone Of Silence. They'll drive you nuts, and you'll never complain about a Tele again.
