My '83 tele's FINALLY here!!!! (with pics)

Hey all, my '83 tele that i bought from ebay is finally here! :D :D :D
As soon as it got here, i replaced the pickguard with a chrome one that got here a week before the guitar :)
It plays very nicely, although IMO the bridge pickup sounds a bit too sharp, i might get an SD hot stack. I like the neck p/u a lot though...
I don't see why people call the neck 'soft v' though, to me it looks more like a c shape... :? Either way, i think it's pretty good...
Anyway, the strings are a bit old and the frets needs a bit of work, so i'll get it set-up+ frets crowned next week!
I'm gunna go with slinky 10's, never a big fan of 9's

These are taken using my phone at night so excuse the crap quality

Hmmm yea, the chrome pickguard only looks good when it's dark (it looks kinda black, but some reflections show)
When its day, it reflects everything, kinda wierd
The chrome pickguard kinda takes it away from the off-the-shelf look a bit too...

Re: My '84 tele's FINALLY here!!!! (with pics)

Nice guitar...hard to believe that stuff from the 80s is over 20 years old!

I have a '94 Tele that had the same American Standard bridge as yours. Don't know if you've thought about mods, but Callaham makes a 3-barrel bridge that uses the same screw holes as the American Standard bridge. It's $100 and it doesn't require any drilling...just drop it in.

What's with everyone wanting to change the saddles/bridge on these? To me it sounds good and works fine!
Is it the look?

Yeup i just put on straplocks on it and now just looking for SD hot stack on ebay, the neck p/u is great though! much better than the current Am ones!
Pity the fender deluxe strap i got a week ago isn't working though, it's way 2 wide for my taste and doesnt hang low enough!

Hmm i'm pretty unsure about the pickguards...
Better pictures of MY tele here:
http://www.mojopin.org/gallery/telec...ica/index.html (yup, it's the same guitar with the same s/n, small world after all)
or with the original white pickguard: http://www.mojopin.org/gallery/telec...nde/index.html
What do you guys think?
I don't want my guitar to look like an off-the shelf guitar, and i think the chrome can look pretty cool, but it smudges really easily and it's pretty heavy...
Mann, i'm confused, my friend said the white gives it a 'classic' look (he knows NOTHING about guitars) :?

Honestly, I don't like either one.
What about trying out some other colors?

You bought the guitar off the guy who made the mojopin website.. nice one..
I actually like the chrome pickguard, but only when its been beaten up a alot.
If you look at buckleys one its all scratched and smudged with grime, http://www.tdpri.com/forum/attachmen...54744_7324-jpg
I think it looks better than a new shiney pickguard.
If your not a fan, either buy a polyester mirror one (which aparently wont scratch or weigh as much) or buy a black pickguard as you said you like the look of it at night (almost looks black).
If you want that 50's vintage look, your friend is right, the white pickguard will do it for you.
Is your guitar the same colour as the photo of buckleys tele in real life? It looks to be a different shade of blonde?
