First, hello and welcome. Second, do you have any pictures? An exact year model, some pics with the neck off, the control plate off and even the pickgaurd off would be really helpfull. Some of the guys here can identify a tele just looking at it like ol fuzzy and a number of others here. So some pics would be great. :)

i'll try and sort that out in a moment. my flat mate has a digital camera i think. i think it is from 1989. i've just looked at a serial number chart and it dates to 1989
E955026
any rough guestimations of value if this is the case?

i think i've cracked it. it's a 1984 japanese tele ( the lying scoundrel). minor wear and tare ( the odd scratch). dijon yellow. black scatchplate. can anyone tell me a rough idea of its value?

aswell. the guy who told me it was american had scratched the made in japan bit off ( i've never even noticed it it's done that well). i worked it out by looking at the model on the internet and lining the mark up with the letters above. i'm a bit gutted that i've realised he lied after all this time.

Value doesn't matter.

Never sell your first Telecaster!

that's not really helpful mate. i owe a lot of money for electricity and i'm going to get a court summons if i don't pay it. not everyone can afford to be so sentimental.

Hi Skullflower and welcome.

Depending on the condition of the Telecaster, you should get somewhere in the range of $400 - $800 U.S. That would be if you went direct to a buyer and not involve a reseller or store.

Good luck and sorry to hear about your situation. :(

Good Advice , well worth heeding. If you read enough posts here you will come across laments from those who let go of the first one in their lives.

No disrespect intended mate, but what in blue blazes is going on here? How did this go from being a 70s Tele, to an '89, to a MIJ? I thought you said you found an E9 serial number...what happened to that? I'm definitely missing some pages from my copy of the playbook!

I think you'll find this group to be incrediblly helpful, even when we're being sentimental, but the guitar has to be credible first. How about just describing all of it's fine details?

How about some pix ol'chap! What kind of bed was this guitar under anyway? (I apologize in advance for that last comment, but man, reading this thread is pretty odd...especially without any pictures...)

The value of the guitar could be quite variable.... I think with a really good narrative (RK could help with this) some good pictures, and some good buzz on some discussion boards you could get 650 US. But, be prepared for some healthy derision if it smells of bovine waste!

but has more minor scratches and chips. i'm going to sand iit and refinish. will this devalue it?

OK, I read them again. Twice as a matter of fact. I'm still confused what happened to the E9 serial number as this became a MIJ Tele. Maybe there's a good explanation, but it's not in these posts regardless of how many times I read them.

once i realised it was japanese, the serial number had a different inevitability. confirmation of its asain origin was that my tuning keys are gotch ( am i right?).

What kind of stickers did you clean off the tele?

Are the pickups on the tele 'nocasters'?

you can put whammy's on teles.

Pete is very funny btw.
