Disappointed in a detail: Current 60s Bigsby Custom Tele
Saw at a dealer yesterday a beaut of a current model, CIJ, bigsby 60s Custom Tele in all its bound sunburst glory. Attractive price but...
"Custom Telecaster" is not on the headstock decal! Just "Telecaster" AR Duch wrote that some early 59 Customs had only "Telecaster" on the headstock, but other 59s and all production Customs through the 60s had the "Custom Telecaster" decal until the big bad black CBS logo of the late 60s. Hard for me to get past this detail, it's a deal breaker. I know a bigsby Custom Tele was a special order back in the 60s, so how does one measure the authenticity of a current replica? Subjective, I guess, and I want "Custom Telecaster" on the headstock! Back to real life, Mik

That's it....I'm selling mine
And you know what else? At the heel of my neck, just above the body, it says "Crafted in Japan". Now, I've never held a true early 60s Custom, but I don't think those have that wording.
(I am just being sarcastic here.)

No disrespect but....
oh for crying out loud...... Big deal, it's not the real thing, it's a reissue! Play it for the fact that it's a tele. My MIJ '69 Thinline has a super thick poly coat, real '69 Thinlines did not. I've never thought to complain, considering my Reissue set me back 1/4th what the original would. |

'If you are just planning on looking at it and impressing tele-nerd friends'
Lol, I didn't think tele-nerds had friends, they just spend all there time on the net. Play it, if you like it buy it, I hear you can get something called water slide decals if you're that bothered. |

That would bother me as well to be quite honest...if I want a reproduction of a certain model I want it to be "exact"...
Strange to see so many folks here all of a sudden who don't care about a detail like this...especially since this forum has seen countless page-long threads about the nitro paintjob on 52 RI's!!!

hey, maybe we could ease up on the guy a little....
If it helps any, the MIJ and CIJ 62 reissues have always just said "telecaster", even when the AV 62 says "Custom Telecaster". I don't know why, all i know is they've done it that way for 20 years. Mike |

No fun if the inmates here "ease up" on me, bring it on!
What if the Muddy Waters Tele had knurled metal control knobs instead of Super Reverb knobs? And DIDN'T have "Custom Telecaster" on the headstock? A SHAME that would be. And one can't call a Muddy Tele a "reissue"...a tribute, yes. But it wouldn't be right, without the 50s body, the 60s rosewood f/b neck and "Custom Telecaster" headstock decal. Yes the details matter. Noted, that Fender Japan has been producing 60s "Custom Telecaster" style Tele "reissues" for decades without the "Custom Telecaster" decal. The USA AV reissue got it right. And may I remind y'all that I signed off my original post with "back to real life" Mik

I was going to say I was just trying to be funny and didn't mean to bring on this onslaught....but, hey, since you seem to be asking for it now...... Can you give us your opinions on the Deluxe, Super and Twin Reverb Reissue amplifiers? :)
