Tele's that find their way back to you...
about 4 years ago,I sold a Midnight purple, american standard, custom order tele, with a humbucker in the bridge, and a coil tap(all from the factory)22 fret neck, you know all the good stuff.I regretted it,hated myself for it,and wished I'd never again be that dumb.Well, last night my new band had rehersal at one of the guys houses, and when I went into the basement studio...guess what?? There she was! Man,she was hanging there, with a new scuff on her,and I was floored!
I made the guy swear that if he were to ever need to get rid of it,to call ME! That was a nice one,and I let her go, but now I can play her all I want! YES! |

Its gone away twice and came back both times!
I have a Warmoth Tele that has been stolen twice and has come back each time. The first time it was stolen out a storage unit in Vegas, when I had to fly to Nashville for a week. The police caught the guy a month later breaking into a house and he was carrying my tele.
The next time I was loading out from a gig in New Mexico I locked the back of the truck and went back into the club to get paid and when I came out someone had broken open the truck and the guitars were gone. The police found it in a pawn shop a week later. This guitar has been my main on stage guitar for 15 years(when its not in the hands of some thief) and its very easy to recognize, because its covered in snake skin. |

In 1996 I bought a Chrome Red American Standard tele. I played it for about a year then decided I wanted a motorcycle so I sold it to a relative. About 6 months ago I decided I needed to get my tele back, the acoustic just wasn't fixing my Jones anymore. Luckily I was able to buy it back for exactly what I sold it for. It managed to only pick up one small ding in the poly while I didn't own it when it fell off a wall mount.
Now that I have been playing again I will not let it leave my possession again. This will be the one guitar that I will never get rid of, the others are always up for trade or sale if someone wants one of them. |

The Tele that I have now made it's way back to me a couple of years back. But only because I had to steal it from my ex when she ran off with one of my friends and a load of my belongings

Sorry about this, but...

I've never had "sellers remorse" after getting rid of a guitar. Maybe because I've gotten something better. Last year I sold an acoustic epiphone and an old Kramer (please, don't ask...) to buy Ginger, my sunburst MIA Tele. This year, I sold a Takamine to get Lucia, my beloved 91 MIM Tele toploader and with the money left, I bought a VOX 15 pathfinder, and even though the "rules" of music state that Teles and VOX amps don't go together, I think I've finally found my personal sound.

Thanks a lot Bo!

That wasn't my idea! That's why I said "rules". I read about it some time ago in an article that was giving advice to beginners about guitar - amp combinations. If I recall correctly, it was something like this: "Gibson - Marshal" "Fender - Fender" "Ricks - Vox" I thought, what? Nonsense, THERE ARE NO RULES IN MUSIC!!!! Ask other TDPRIers about the Tele - Peavey Classic 30 combination! Then, I was in a store some time ago, and they had this brand new VOX 15 pathfinder. I've always wanted an AC30, but I can't afford one, so I gave it a try. Plugged my Tele in it, and man! It was like magic.....Probably one day I'd get the AC30, though.

A few years ago I swapped my tele (Chandler body, ESP neck, Fender Noiseless pickups) to a music store for a 1963 lefty Guild Starfire IV. I thought I had gotten the better bargain - a vintage lefty Guild for what is considered a "parts guitar". Well, over the course of the next six months I discovered that the pickups buzzed unless I turned them up full. What to do? Do I change the p/ups and hurt the vintage value? Plus I found myself unwilling to play it out because it was vintage. On top of everything else it did the smooth Wes Montgomery thing very well but didn't cut thru a band worth beans. I missed my tele.
At the same time I'd visit the music store and my tele was still hanging there. I couldn't believe that nobody was interested in it in all that time! Finally I swapped back. I'll never part with this guitar again! Sure wish I had a "stole my guitar from my ex-wife" story, though...
