EB until die!
It's a great deal! 2.50, WOW!
I've tried a lot of brands and for the last 4 years I've only used EB in both, my acoustics and my Teles. If can't find EBs and I'd use GHS. I personally don't like D'addario. They feel "sticky" and they don't last as much as EBs. HOWEVER, this is me. I'm pretty sure that someone else out there has experienced the complete opposite! Is it possible for you to expend 8-10 bucks in a set of EB and a set of D'add from your local GC? That way you could try them out and decide by yourself.

For an even better deal
.....check out GHS Fatties They run 9 - 43 and 10 - 47. The little bit extra on the lower three strings really works for me. They are currently on sale at GC for $19.99 for a box of ten. I usually get only one gig out of whatever strings I use so I just look for the best deal. I've been using these strings on all 12 of my guitars for the past two years with no complaints - and I have never paid more that $2.00 per set. Check them out.

Gotta Throw In For Dean Markley Nickel Steels............
..........but, between D'Addario's and Ernie Balls, I would definately take the D'Addario's. I have never had any luck with EB's. Just removed a set of EB's that was put on my Gibson ES-335 by the place I bought it and the sound improved greatly. (I strung it with Dean Markley's). So, put me in for D'Addario's before EB's.
Take care. Emmitt O.

ernie balls
I like the feel of the EB's, really its a toss up, but if your stringin up 3or 4 git's , the extra 50 cents a whack adds up . over the course of 20 or 30 years you could save enough dough to buy another tele ... besides im cheap 8)

Tried a couple of Everly strings. Both the Rockers and the B52's were great! Really liked them. Won't go dead in a week either...
Between EB's and DAddario I would go for the D'Addarios...used to use them for years and years...now I use Everlys and Pyramids...kind of expensive but worth it IMHO

Re: What does every one think between EB and D'addarrio stri
EB 10/46 on all my guitars, though a few days ago I mounted a set of D'Addario 1/2 round's on one tele of mine, just to try them. But that's another story, EB rounds last for a very long time, they're the best IMO.

I Like The D'Addarios 'cause
the EB's and my skin acids don't like each other. I like the EBs tone, the D's just seem to last longer / stay brighter longer for me. I can rot a set of EB's or Fenders in one session. Of course your mileage may vary etc/blah blah woof woof...

I've never met a set of strings I couldn't kill in an hour or two, so the longevity issue is void with me. That being said, I like the feel of D'Adarrios better, because they feel a little stiffer to me. (They don't call the EB's "slinky" for nothing) They also have a better sound to my ear, not so bright and harsh as the EB, but that's just my opinion. I string my custom built hollow tele with D'Add's, gauged 11-49, and my old faithful #1 '70 tele with GHS Gauged 11-70. I don't nessecarily absolutely love the tone of the GHS, but it ain't bad, and they are the only ones who make a set gauged that way.
Hope my answer is sufficiently vague and convoluted, Jake

D'Addario's first, EB dead last
I used to think all strings of the same composite were the same, and used to use EB strings as they were always available and cheaper than D'Addario strings. Then I read a review in Vintage Guitar (by Tony Nobel, maybe?) where he reviewed a number of strings and rated them with various attributes. Per his review, the D'Addario strings came out on top, and EB strings near the bottom. Figuring that strings are cheap, I tried a few sets of D'Addario string and loved them. The D'Addrio strings are way more consistent quality than EB strings, somewhat more balanced from string to string and they seem to last longer.
I bought an EB Axis guitar last year and it came with 2 boxes of EB strings. Every now and then I'll use them when I run out of D'Addario strings, and I really, really don't like 'em. Strings are cheap, so try as many sets as you can and decide for yourself. The only cheap item that effects tone is your pick, and I'd advise trying different picks, too. Dave Patterson |

I use PYRAMID roundwounds these days cause they simply kill any other string I've ever tried(and they only cost $3 in Europe). If they stopped making them though I would go back to D'Addarios (which is what I've been using for years) cause they stay fresh in their special package and sound/feel better tnan EB's.
But PYRAMIDS are SO much better..... |

D'Addario
I have used both and can and will use either if I have to but I prefer the feel and packaging of D'Addarios. Ernie Balls always feel sort of like the wiggling arm fat of the lunch lady who served the meatloaf when I was in grade school.

Hard decision...
For me, I can only get about a week, maybe 2 out of the Ernie Balls. For my chemistry the D'Addario's seem to last longer. As long as the gauge is right, who cares, eh?

Nick - I have a whole box of Pyramids like the ones on Thomann. I'm not very fond of them. The 3.00€ version is machine made and last an hour for me. Then they feel like rusted and sound dead....they look like this
![]() BUT Pyramid have a set that looks VERY similar to the one above. They last forever and sounds incredible. Bass is clear and strong like a grand piano, treble is sweet...I wish all strings were like this... they look like this ![]() see the difference??

Pyramid strings
Those labeled "Pure nickel hand wound" seems to be a complete different string. I found them on www.custom-sounds.com (a Finnish firm) for 16.00 Euro (thats about 17.00 USD). At that price they shure must be something else. I have never tried them. I´ve been using DÁddario 011 since forever and why change an old habit?
Maby someone here knows more about those Pyramids and can enlighten us here about the differences between different Pyramid strings and if those expensive ones is worth the money? |
