Are there advantages to bakelite pickguards?

Are there any advantages to using bakelite pickguards on a Tele?

Any disadvantages to using bakelite?

Advantages??

Heck yeah, it makes the guy selling 'em richer. Disadvantages? Shoot yeah too, it makes you poorer, that's about it.

They work for me.

I have found they are good for fighting against static. Since I started using them, I never get any static build up which I used to get constantly. Whether or not this works for everyone is anybody's guess.

ADVANTAGES?

PETE,I used an ALLPARTS bakelite tele pickguard on the parts esquire pictured in my gallery.I can't think of any advantges over the standard plastic ones except maybe the look of it and the fact it was used on the 50's blackguards.

Oops! I probably said I was going to put together an Esquire next, but I have too much momentum towards putting together a straight forward Tele by now. I might never get to doing an Esquire.

I just ordered a bakelite pickguard from GR Guitars. I already had an account with them. I checked WD Music, but they kind of indicated that they had more holes than I wanted.
