Musikraft neck
Picked this one up recently, a Musikraft neck, .95" fat V, 9.5" radius and med. 6510 frets. They made a point of saying it was quartersawn, it looked to have much more silking than a standard maple neck. One thing I noticed was that the quartersawn neck did not soak up the stain as well as a straight maple neck. I always remember liking the early MIJ 50s RI and JD tele necks, which had similar V necks, a bit harder V than a typical Warmoth boatneck, which seems a softer V. This one feels like the early MIJ necks, but has the flatter radius and bigger frets that I like. I finished it with 2 coats MinWax Golden Oak stain, and 2 coats of Minwax Wipe-On-Poly, hitting it with OOOO steel wool after each coat. A very thin finish, and really smooth feeling. Topped off with a 2 applications of Kiwi Brown for the darker amber look that I like, the headstock got 4 coats. Gotoh Kluson-style tuners coming tomorrow. can't wait to try it out soon, replacing a thin neck on one of my teles. Heres the after pics: ![]() ![]()

Does it seem like a quality neck? It sure does look great!
I'm in the market for a neck right now and I want a real Fender headstock, and I can't find a company that can do everything I want, except USACG and Musikraft. However, if I would geta USACG I would have to get a paddle headstock and reshape it, something I don't really want to do. Thanks! Joey |
