97 JD Tele

I just got a 97' JD telecaster and I love it! It is a translucent blue color and double bound! I think it looks beautiful and it sounds amazing also!

Is anyone familiar with these guitars? Does anyone else have one?

Yes, they are great guitars. The necks on them are fantastic, great range of sounds and good playability. Hang on to it as they are becoming quite scarce nowadays...wish I'd kept mine !

I have a '94

Great guitars overall. I found the pickups a bit lacking on mine. The necks are incredible.

I owned 2 of them, a red and a blue, before deciding I liked the concept so much that I bought a Custom Shop Donahue. That was about 7 years ago, still have it, and it's my number one guitar these days.

As was noted the MIJ/CIJ version has an abosolutely killer neck. The Custom Shop version didn't get a V neck till later in life when Jerry spec'ed the 10/56 neck. The Japanese necks always seem so nicely finished as well.

Both of my JDs had lame bridge PUs out of the box, but both had great Strat neck PUs, especially the blue CIJ that came second. My first JD is still with us as Eryque's "Ginger". Lightweight and rang like a bell.

Definitely one of my favorite Fender's ever. If you ever get a chance to check out the CS version go for it.
