This tele started out as a dark blue MIM tele with a white pickguard. The previous owner wanted a natural stained tele so he bought a unfinished poplar body off of ebay. It weighed a ton so he went to the thrift shop at Warmoth looking for an ash body that was lightweight. After cruising for a few weeks he found one. I guess you would call it a 3 piece, big hunk of body with a 2 piece bookmatched top. The bookmatching is a little less than perfect if you look closely. Anyway he got the ash body in and quickly wiped 2 coats of poly on it - no sanding, no sealing, no nothing but the poly with a brush. He put the guitar back together and decided he didn't want to play guitar anymore. He ran an ad on the local for sale newsgroup for a $250 tele. I show up and voila he says I've got the original body and the poplar body that come with it. I haggle to $225 and off I go. Sell the 2 bodies on Ebay for $125, do a lot of very fine sanding, swap the white pickguard for a tortoise guard and voila my $100 tele. Feels great and the stock MIM pups sound great. They really cut through with just the right blend of twang and kick butt.
