The Amazing '72 Telecaster Deluxe

I've had my '72 Telecaster Deluxe RI for about nine months now, and I have to say that it is an amazing guitar, capable of a lot of different tones. I have found that it will do everything a standard Tele can do and then some. The humbuckers allow for Gibson-esque tones, but are still very Fender sounding, especially at lower volumes. I own 6 other Teles of various types, but my Deluxe is my fave. I really can't sing this guitar's praises enough. The value for the price is unbelievable! It's awesome that such a great guitar can be gotten for a relatively low price!

I wanted one

I played one at GC about 6 months ago that was amazing. The neck was not poly and it sounded incredible through one of those little vox all tube practice amps, and a Fender amp I played it through. Recently I had enough money to buy one, but the one I liked was gone and the new had a poly neck that I didn't like as much. Also I noticed a BIG difference in volume between the first three and second three stringsthat I didn't notice before. I guess you can adjust the pole pieces?

It was enough to scare me off for now.

Can you still get them with an unshiney neck?

They all come with poly necks....

...was the first one you tried used?

Stock, they have glossy very thick poly covered necks.

Re: The Amazing '72 Telecaster Deluxe

I also have a '72 Reissue MIM Tele Deluxe and absolutely love it. I'm a beginning player, and two months ago I actually had my heart set on a new Fender Standard Strat in wineberry. But after playing a dozen guitars for over an hour, I couldn't resist this nearly-perfect, used 3-tone sunburst, mainly because of its smooth poly neck and low action. I've since built up my fingers, replaced the "nines" with a "ten" set, adjusted the pickups for even volume across the strings, lifted the action a little to reduce buzzing and picked up a Zoom G2 to practice with. Man, what a blast!

And god bless Johnny Cash, Neil Young and John Denver for writing songs I can actually follow... :)
