Facelift for your Tele

http://www.guitarfacelift.com/home.htm

Well what will they think of next?

The Status Quo rhythm guitar ace Rick Parfitt has got an idea of changing the look of your Tele in seconds. Interesting concept!

Wait, wait, wait ....

..... am i showing my age here but does no-one else remember that Fender made a (plexiglass ?) cover that fitted to the BACK of their guitars that was held on by the strap buttons ??
Am i the only person to have seen one ?
It was to save the back of your favourite guitar from buckle rash, dings and scratches, er, relic artists take note.

I knew a guy with a Jazzmaster guitar that had the front and back protected by a plastic thing that sort of encased the whole guitar body. I'm not sure if that was something from Fender. It sort of reminded me of the relatives that had all their furniture covered in plastic... that nobody wanted to sit on.

That is really not new. This same thing was out back in the late 90's. It is clear static cling vinyl that has been printed or screened. I guy in Atlanta used to sell them until he got word that the vinyl was ruining the finish on some nitro finished guitars. I know that rythym city stopped selling them because of this. I guess the same way that the older stands used to stain the the necks. YMMV with the covers listed here.

I'm thinking of making some out of hardboard or thin MDF. They're going to look like really good guitars, and be mounted (in seconds) a couple of inches in front of your cheapo instrument. From a few feet away, it'll look just like the real thing!

Of course, someone in the audience might wonder how you can play guitar with an invisible right hand ('cause your hand's behind the board), so to solve this, I'm marketing "the picking hand" - a bit like those wobbly plastic hands that chavs had in the rear windows of their cars in the 1970s - you simply affix the hand to your fake guitar front (the facade-ocaster, I think I'll call it) with a sucker, and play the song. The hand is on a spring, so it wobbles and appears to be playing the facade-ocaster.

So now, there's no need to take several guitars to bookings. Just the one will do, plus your pack of facades! Sultans of swing? No problem: red strat facade. Jazz? No problem: Archtop facade. Metal? Mo problem: BC Rich facade. And so on...

I'll get me coat.

A little of subject but if you have a really nice guitar and you want to play it while wearing that big cowboy belt buckle check out AxSaks.

Quote from Axsak site:

"The Axsak Guitar Jacket was created to protect the guitar's finish from the inevitable scratches and little dings that greatly depreciate the value of the guitarists investment."

er... doesn't this fly in the face of relicing guitars?

Fair enough, a repair person might want to protect a customer's property, but come on! It's a guitar. It's meant to be used, and if it suffers wear and tear, then so be it.

They'll be putting cling film under the strings next, to protect the frets!

Relic ............ schmelic. A look at the the Blue Book of Electric Guitars or the Vintage Guitar Price Guide shows that the value of guitars is dependent on condition.

Launched at the London Guitar Show, Wembley Conference Centre, in May, 2006, The Facelift has initially been developed to fit two particular guitars only – the Fender Telecaster and the Fender Stratocaster – with three available designs for each model.
Hmmm...I wonder if they'll be giving out freebie's.

Where is my plastic back ? ....

..... i am thinking around about '68 or '69 a US serviceman played with one of our local bands and he had a Jazzmaster or Jaguar and the back and sides were protected by a clear plastic 'tray' that was held on by the strap buttons.
Maybe i can check some old catalouges or something 'cos now it will drive me bonkers until i can find one actually existed !!!

Would you rather be seen with your fancy buckle (that no one will see) Or that hideous looking tele sock.

Actually, it kind of makes it look like a Vox guitar

I suppose that maybe the idea of that sock thing that stretches over the guitar is to protect a museum piece of a guitar that's in very mint condition, that you'd never gig with anyhow.

And I like to take as good a care of my guitars as I can, but it's not really in the spirit of the Tele IMO to baby it that much.

I mean, not even considering how that thing looks, if you're that concerned with pampering a Tele, you probably need to buy a MIM and play that instead.

Newest Money Making Ideas
Posted: Thu Dec 08, 2005 4:27 pm

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1. Create Instant Telecaster Relics with Printable graphics film

Lets say you have a parts-caster or otherwise stock looking Guitar body lying around and you want to make it look like a relic but you can’t build up the courage to start beating and sanding. Why not cover it with an “Image” printed on the printable graphics film like the NASCAR guys use for paint graphics and sponsor logos.

Don’t like the color of your existing guitar? Cover it with the printed film and save a bundle. Want to protect your guitar back from scratches? Cover it with an image complete with relicing or an image of the string through ferrules that didn’t come on your Squire.

Use your scanned images or select from a stock image source, print and apply.

Advantages: Cheaper and faster than a refinish and you can always change your mind and go back to what you had. Meantime you are adding a protective cover to keep out harmful UV rays and avoid surface scratches.
Some of my other Ideas are here: http://www.tdpri.com/viewtopic.php?t...ghlight=nascar

Wow, those are cheesy. He should make one like Clapton's "Crash" strat. That would sell.
