I don't know what Tele Bible you're speaking of if it's Japanese, but the US Tele Bible called "The Fender Telecaster" by A. R. Duchossoir has a good photo of an early black and gold paisley James Burton Tele with Lace Sensor pickups like the one Paul Wong played in Beyond.
I think this Sunburst is either a special sunburst James Burton again, with Lace Sensor pickups or could it be a newer Nashville Tele that has had Lace Sensors added to it. I suppose they could be EMGs, or some other noiseless pickups. Here's a better photo of him playing what definitely is a James Burton Black and Gold Paisley from http://www.paulwong.net

JDMX88,
How are you? It's great to meet another Beyond fan on this site. Where are you located? I am in NYC. From what it looks like, Paul is most likely playing a custom-made James Burton style Tele, maybe from Fender Japan Custom Shop. You can’t go wrong using the JB Tele specs on the Fender website as your start and make the appropriate modifications: 1. 3-tone sunburst alder body 2. pearloid pickguard with 8 black screws 3. Lace Sensor pickups 4. ultra flamey 1 piece maple neck That should make a pretty killer Tele. Be aware that using Warmoth and other quality parts will come out pretty pricey by the time you are finished. I did one a few years ago and the final bill was around US$1200. Good Luck and let me know how it turns out! UB |

thanks for the post everyone. Yes i believe it is custom made from japan.
Here is a link to the book i am talking about: If link doesnt work here is a picture, this picture looks almost exactly the same as yours. ![]() Yup he also plays james burton's telecaster, its basically like his custom one only difference is neck i believe and body. haha beyond is awesome :D Im from Edmonton Canada. I want to custom a custom a guitar exactly or as close as i can get to Paul's guitar. There some details i am not sure about but maybe you guys can help. This is going to be my first time ordering from warmoth, and the thing i am worried about is the extra fees that i have to pay. Can any of you guys tell what kind of finish is done on that neck? And i know the back of the neck is flamed maple, is the fretbroad birdseye? |

It's the same book. The photo I listed just has one of those wrap around advertisement/notifications they often put on Japanese books. I leaved thru the book the other day and didn't find any specs. Sorry.
This book really doesn't get into the specifics we want to know (like the Blackguard Book). There is a great magazine type book published by Guitar World (I think) Japan on the Stratocater. It's a phenomenal book that has specifics about pickups, finishes, frequency analysis of string resonation (interesting stuff; e.g. pickup mounted pickups vs body mounted pickups), great photos, and lots of info on how to properly set up a strat. Super informational; wish something like this was available for Telecasters. |
