Hi I'm new to the forum. I recently purchased a used '52 RI Tele, Just so I'm clear, it is my understanding that the SN is not evident without removing the necK? Also do the Japan RI's have the on the neck in plain sight? Thanks for any clarification. Bob

The # is on the bridge plate of the three saddle bridge.
If that has been replaced then who knows.....

<li>The onlee thang onna neck butt iss the date it waz made.
