ORIGINAL ANNOUNCEMENT (with the INFO!):

Co-chairs Ron (Califiddler) and Mik are pleased to announce the (third) SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA CALIFORNIA TELECASTER JAM, to roar on SATURDAY MAY 20, 2006, noon to 6pm.

We've reserved a spacious, high-ceiling hall with a STAGE . Plenty of room for the music to project, and for showing off gear, other performances, and socializing.

A PA has been arranged, but events like these can always use mic's and mic stands, so please bring 'em if you got 'em.

We can use a few sheet music stands too.

Eats and soft drinks will be pot luck. Cups, paper plates and utensils will be provided. There will also be a full no-host bar.

Cost? Depends on turnout, should be very reasonable as we got a very sweet deal on the hall rental (Guess-timate $10-$20 per person, paid at the event).

So bring all the toys you can pack and head on out on Sat., May 20, 2006 to (easy access off I580) Livermore, CA:

Eagles Hall (FOE 609)
527 North Livermore Ave.

Just checking in. I posted about a week or so ago about a possible East Bay jam. Mik contacted me and we got together to throw this thing together.

We're hoping to get 40 people or so to this thing, the more the merrier. Mik worked out a great deal with the Eagles in Livermore, so that the hall, including a bartender, is costing us about $425. (That's a great deal in the Bay Area. :-() ) Hence the contributions to pay for the hall. Mik and I dont't want to get stuck for the cost, but we're not trying to make money, either. In the unlikely event that we take in more money than we need, we'll probably contribute the extra to the tdpri.

It should be a great time - stage with a PA, a rhythm section, cash bar with a bartender, etc. We figure if everyone brings his own soft drinks and a pot luck dish to share we'll be in good shape. We're probably up for getting some folks to go out for Mexican food after the jam, as well.

The reasons that we're asking folks to RSVP is so that, first, we don't get 40 people each bringing 3-bean salad. Second, we'd like to know what equipment folks are bringing because, in addition to the on-stage jams, we'd like to set up some halfway organized demos, so that folks can try their Teles (or whatever) through different amps, effects, etc. So for example we may do something where, from 2:00 -3:00 we're getting all the Deluxe Reverbs in one spot and letting folks compare tweed vs. BF vs. SF vs. RI, etc. From 3:00 - 4:00 delay pedals, you get the idea. Third, it would be nice to know what kind of music folks want to play so the country folks can jam together, the classic rock folks, etc.

Let's get those replies coming! Teles in the East Bay!!

Brick - bring your Teles - if you feel like playing, play; if you don't, listen, socialize, whatever - it's all good, bro!

I already want to try everyone else's gear so much I thought I'd throw out what I'll probably bring:

PA
mics (57s and 58s) and mic stands
1987 Martin HD28
1922 Gibson A4 mandolin
1978 Tele
Fiddle (who the hell knows what year, make or model - it's a fiddle!)
Peavey Classic 30
Mid-70s Fender Champ
probably a lasagna or eggplant parmigiana

I have a couple concerns about kids:

Won't there be a bar? I'd think it'd make it 21+

My other concern about kids is - uncontrolled, they can get into places they shouldn't be. Falling guitars and amps can injure kids more easily than adults. If kids are controlled, I have no problem but if they're allowed to run loose, I'd have a problem with that.

1) Kevin "Sparky" B
2) Fernandes TE-1N
3) Skip Simmons Newcomb
4) Won't I get run out of the place for bringing my LP?
5) The little lady will come up with something.

I'll commit

I have to teach that day from 2-6 but I am pretty sure I can show up for the first part! Count me in.

Brett Gregory

Ash Tele with Kinman Broadcasters and a Tweed Pro Junior.

But maybe I should bring my bass instead?

Any food items needed, just lemme know. I make a great beer dip. Thats an appetizer, not a personality observation.

I get done teaching at 6pm so if you all are headed over to Anita's Burritos on Railroad ave, I'll meet ya there (or where ever)

sounds fun!

No spouses or kids. The whole point of this thing is for some Tele players to meet each other, check out each other's gear and play some music. If we have spouses and kids it's a whole other vibe. Plus then we'd have issues with the bar, kids being around valuable equipment, whether and how to charge for spouses and kids, etc. We'll just keep it to the players this time.

Hey, Cat

Thanks for answering the spouses and kids question. New to this Telejam thing and just didn't know if it was a family deal or not. Thanks.

Fuzzy,

Thanks, that was a great day at your home and the Tele Shack, great memories...

I found one of those rascals, and he's coming to the jam: Eric!

I'm hunting down the other suspects. I'll PM you.

How about you? It's a short drive down here and you'll have a whole lotta fun!

I'd like to meet some other players. Name: Chuck Foster, I'll bring a '52RI and an amp. As I live quite a distance away I'll probably stop in Livermore and pick up a bucket of chicken.

Great! We're looking forward to meeting you and playing! (Chicken tip: Popeye's off Las Positas, left at the light on N. Livermore Ave. Spicy works! )

Lotis - man, that is one serious list of equipment, especially the amps!

How does the minidisc work - do you use an "audience" mic, or take a line out from the mixer (which wouldn't catch amps not going through the board), or what? Can you burn CD's from the minidisc so that we can distribute copies to everyone who's there?

With the minidisc I just plug in a Sony stereo mike. It records real good if I get good mike placement. I got a '64 Princeton Reverb I might bring too if I feel real ambitious. Looking forward to putting some faces and pickin' with the names. Lotis

hoping that can i play with your toys???

i'm hoping that i can try a few licks thru the 66 bassman. i used to have one and it sounded so very fine. and then i'd like to take a few minutes with one of the Hamel equipped Teles. i've been able to kick my GAS habit, but with this jam coming up i can feel the stirring in my gut...

and of course my stuff is open for messing with too. tho probably the only thing that i have that's of any interest to this group is my Mesa-Boogie Studio Caliber amp.

and, hmmm, if people are open to an acoustic jam out back or something, i'll bring my Martin too.

this is going to be sooo kewl!!!!

Ronetele -

Definitely bring your Martin. I'm going to bring my Martin, mandolin and fiddle, and others are bringing acoustics, so I think that an acoustic jam would definitely be a possiblity.

Could be time for a 45-minute jam on "Sally Goodin'"!

I'll have my Tele, my Strat and my Esquire, all have Hamels. I'll have my two Hullett amps there (Deluxe andBassman) and my recently completed Tweed Champ for folks to play with.
