Can someone fill me in on the latest GFR scoop????....

I just read an interview with Bruce Kulick in Vintage Guitar magazine where he says he's replacing Grand Funk Railroad's Mark Farner. I was unaware of this; the last time I read something on GFR, some years ago, all the original members were playing together and having a great time. What went sour??? Thanks!

Sadly...

Mark Farner has been doing his solo thing after the Funk's brief reunion in '96 I believe. Bruce Kulick plays guitar for Grand Funk now, Max Carl (formerly of .38 special) is the vocalist and another keyboard player. (3 people to replace Mark? hmm...) Still Mel and Don holding the groove. Mark has made remarks on his website that comes across as less than supportive. They play ALOT of Mark's songs. They're coming around here in October. I would love to go see Don Brewer, he is one of my favorite drummers. Too bad just the 3 of them couldnt' go out there and give it all for hardcore Funk Fans.
An answer to prayers is that they are releasing all the old stuff. I bought The 1971 tour CD....whew! Live and raw, out of tune guitars, etc...I love it! No one rocks better than they did back then. I feel they may have gone a little soft from 74-75 on, but hey, who can keep that pace, eh? I hope I'll get to see the original Funk one day.

Thanks Tyler! I also...

bought the '71 live album and I concur with you that it's definitely smoking; the three players are unbelievable; they definitely could give Cream a run for their money.
