The most mutant Tele I have ever owned . . .

A couple months ago, I posted a note about a mid-80s MIJ Contemporary Telecaster that I spotted in a shop. I was surprised at how much these were going for these days, so I went back to the shop and made an offer on it. Now, It's sitting next to my amp.

In all, it's a cool guitar that will see me through until I finish my next tele project. It sounds good, feels like a Tele, and the finish (pearlescent) is cool. I've never had a rosewood fingerboard Tele before, so this will take some getting used to. One thing that struck me when I took it apart is how nicely finished it it - even the pickup routs are nice compared to the powdery, roughly painted routs we see on today's Fenders. That's why the MIJ Fenders are my favorite. Eventually, I'll sell it and move on, but for now, it's a fun one to have around. Plus, you don't see many of these.

I have a black one. For some reason they don't seem to command a very high price. They're probably the most affordable MIJ Tele around. This one like yours recently sold on Ebay.

Here's mine...........

Must be that whammy bar on a Tele thing, and the two humbuckers, that's turning off the Tele fans, and hurting the resale value!

I can't work a whammy bar to save my life, but I do like humbucker Tele's.
