Blackguard Web Database Project

I was wondering if any of you guys thought there was any scope for creating a early BG database on the web wherebye users could post the guitar pics, serial numbers, Body and Neck Dates etc, Thus creating a compendium for the early fender, we could then create averages and search this data pool for info.
I know we have the telecaster gallery over on Fuzzys site but I was thinking something on a grander scale (no offense intended whatsoever I love those pages) We could catalogue all serials etc, I think it would be wonderful. I was also thinking it may expose fake blackguards due to duplicate serials etc.

What do you guys think, do you think we would get enough people contributing data?
Also what legal implications would there be, Ive been thinking about doing this for a couple of years now.

The ultimate blackguard archive.

Any ideas are welcome..

I was thinking about doing something similar including the completed auctions at eBay to track those as well.

Hi Aden,

Just noticed your post...

I don’t really know any specific languages per se. I used to do some web designing and even have a domain and a dot com address; I was going to start a vinyl/tape to CD transferring business but Katrina got all of my equipment before I got my site up. I basically use it now for files and hacks I may need in the field.

I'd gladly devote some space for this!

http://www.myurl/blackguardtracker? How does that sound?

Let me think about the format and if you have any ideas let me know. I'll send you a PM with my email addy.

Timmer

I think many others (ie. Nacho, Ole Fuzzy, etc.) would be happy to assist with thier wealth of knowledge. Understand, I am in no way volunteering thier service, or qualified to give feedback. Just a thought. BTW, it's a great idea!

Blackguard Registry?

The G&L Tribute Page (www.guitarsbyleo.com) has a registry of predominantly limited edition models. I suppose you might want to do something similar. My concern is the owners of these high dollar instruments would be reluctant to disclose some personal information, even though collecting this information would benefit those owners as well as those in the future. It's a good idea and I'd participate, but I think you'll have some convincing to do to make it successful.

Why could it not reside here?

I have always thought that this kind of thing should be created. It would help in the tracking and flow of these guitars. I got ripped off big time the first time I bought a "Broadcaster." It took many years before I decided to try and buy another. (Turned out well.)

Suitable URL

I own www.fender-tele.com. I'd gladly donate it to this worthy cause. It's currently parked at GoDaddy right now.

Wow..

I didnt get any response then BANG your all here at once...
Thanks for offers of domains and webspace... Thats really generous of you guys...

It really has put fire inside me for this, I think it will be a great project where we can all participate and get a great result, Pure archive from the earliest blackguards to the later ones, Including as much information as we can get on each guitar, cross referencing will help us draw averages etc. The ability to upload pics and tracking information. Im going to start on this v soon and create a demo version so ill post the links for you guys to check out. Its gonna be good man!

Keep the ideas coming though, the more the merrier.

Also againm if anyone has any thoughts on legal stuff, I might wanna avoid etc...

I was thinking

that some (most?) people may not want their information online, especially with the privacy issues these days.

Having said that, I believe we could just track online sales and auction sites because it's already in the public domain. We would actually be offering a service to the Telecaster buying community; something like CARFAX for guitars.

For a while I was collecting Tele info from eBay and here as a personal project so I could have a reference (with detailed pictures) of every model year.

How about this: Creating a reference for every model year in every official color? Sort of like Natsteel's neck date project. Then we could branch out with custom colors and features too.

Just thinking out loud here...
