I love to watch good jazz players. I saw Joe Pass live in 1972 in LA. That changed my life.

For me---it was George Benson in NYC, 1972.

I saw Benson 3 times he was awesome each time.

Jazz needs more exposure its a true American style of music.

Mark,
I'm thrilled to hear a Tele player from Bakersfield talk like you do about Jazz. As much as I love guitars and guitar players, Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, T. Monk and Lester Young et al. left us brilliant music of unimagineable beauty. (I shouldn't leave Wes out of there). I just want to play my Tele like Coltrane played his tenor.

That was indeed a pleasant surprise. Usually when I hear the term "smooth jazz", I think of Kenny G & the commercial crap on the radio. That was the real deal.

Amen to that, Mark. I also feel the same about good traditional blues. I saw George once. Unbelievable guitar player with a truly limitless musical vocabulary. His work with Jack McDuff was killer too. George was something like, 17 or 18 years old at that time. And, what a voice?!! I would almost kill to be as talented in either area. Seems like a very humble person too. 8)
