I don't ever recall having waxed poetic on this board about a Tele before, but I have to now. I have a few that I think are the cat's meow, but I played one last night that really "spoke" to me and all that other corny stuff. It belongs to our own jfp. Before he and I shuffled over to see Al Kooper and Sonny Landreth last night we played with his toys for a bit. Regardless of what else I might have been checking out I had trouble putting down his '69 Tele, and when I did it got picked back up in short order.

Joe says this has always been a "special" guitar, but became even moreso when he finally gave it the attention it deserved. First it's wonderfully light, not balsa wood light like his Esquire, but the right kinda light. The neck is that perfect 1969 profile. I guess it was a marginal red refin for years so Joe finally had Mark Jenny take care of it. It's one of the 60s blue finishes but Mark relic'ed it perfectly so it looks more like sage green at this point. The wear on the guitar is so natural. It now sports 250K pots and a Callaham bridge with 2 brass and 1 aluminum saddle.

Maybe Joe needs to set me straight, maybe I didn't sound that good with it. But it seemed that every lick I tried to pull off worked and I couldn't get a bad sound out of it. Plugged into a well worn Tweed Pro he has it was tonal Nirvana, ready for prime time!!

He's promised to bring it to my next HV Jam but has assured me that it's not for sale at any price. Well, certainly not at any price I can afford. The only other guitar I crooned about like this on this site was MANY moons ago, a '69 Natural Ash Thinline (real deal, no RI) at Lark St. Music. I remember that guitar playing and soundling like a dream, but 8-10 years ago it was 3K, so I knew that was a losing proposition. Oops.

I love the neck on Inertian's '69 Thinline RI that I've had for a bit, so there must be something magic about 1969 for me. It was my favorite year for the Chevelle too! Oh well, just had to share this epiphany. For all those that think I deserve to own a guitar I love so much, just fill jfp's mailbox with as many PMs as possible!

You sounded great with that Tele. But then, again, you sound great with any Tele I've heard you play.

It's a wonderful guitar. I've had about fourteen years. And that Pro is pretty neat too. Together, a great combo. I'm lucky to have them both.

That could possibly qualify for the understatement of the year. Tweeds and I don't always get along, I like my blackface Fenders. I could definitely spend some quality time wtih that puppy though.

I can count on one hand the number of guitars that have "spoke" to me over the past three decades.
It makes time stand still.
The light at the end of the tunnel you are seeing is where you'll find the next one.
