All New Garage Sale Classifieds Open NOW!!

I've been working for the past month on a completely new Garage Sale that I'm calling Garage Sale 2.0. And it is OPEN Now. Just click on the existing Garage Sale Link and you'll be there.

http://www.tdpri.com/phpclassifieds

It's a totally new system that works with the TDPRI's registration system (just like the Photo Gallery does). This will make it easier to move from the Forum, to the Garage Sale, to the Review Zone and then the Photo Gallery ALL WITH ONE LOGIN FOLLOWING YOU all the way.

Existing ads in the current Garage Sale will not be moved to the new system unfortunately as I can't make that happen.

Thanks a bunch.

Thats pretty cool! When I buy from someone in the Garage Sale I usually ask them who they are on the TDPRI... makes me more confident.
Now it will be even easier!

Thanks Paul!

Yes, it will be linked to their Profiles here. AND, the new system has these other features:

Buy it Now -- see something you want? Click on Buy It Now and you'll be taken to PayPal so you can simply buy it right then. Advertisers turn this feature on if they want it.

Ratings -- Just like Ebay's Feedback Rating, there is now a rating system.

Auctions -- If an advertiser wants they can turn on an Auction feature and take bids on an item.

Watch Lists -- set multiple ads that you are watching.

Commenting -- Type a question or comment directly on an ad listing.

And much more.

Sounds cool Paul!

I like the auction feature, I'll give it a try once you get it up and running.

Thanks again... -E

Thank you Paul,
I just used the old one for the first time. I bought something and I'll post pics when I get it. Thank you again for your hard work. As a newcomer to this forum, I find that the welcoming attitude here starts with you and infects the whole darn place. You sir, rock.

Paul, this is one of the coolest things ever! Used to be that the community around here was small enough that I'd implicitly trust any TDPRI-er with a sale, but now we're well-enough known that there's folks outside the TDPRI doing business and it's harder to trust. Looks like the new garage sale fixes that.

Good job!

Great! But what happened to the list of new items?

There used to be a list of newly posted garage sale items on the TDPRI home page, at the very bottom... I know it was there... in fact I just bought a tele from a fellow TDPRIer because I saw it on that list! It was a very useful feature, always the first thing I look at when I visit the page... I hope this new garage sale system doesn't make it impossible to continue to list new for sale items, I think that list draws a lot of attention to the garage sale.

My 2 cents...

Thanks, Paul, for all you do here,

-Todd

That was some special coding I did for the old GS and I haven't had a chance to work on that for the new GS 2.0 yet. Hopefully, soon.

UPDATED RESPONSE: It's not at the bottom and it's only ads with photos but how's that?

Paul

It was tpaul who asked, but...

I think it's good like that. If it doesn't seem like a complete representation of the new stuff, maybe that will encourage would be buyers to browse the listings more. And the fact that it's just picture ads should encourage sellers to include pics with their ads. Pictures make the ads so much better.

Thanks, Paul.

If the Buy It Now feature is used, is it restricted to buyers who are TDPRI members? Will it be restricted to buyers with confirmed Paypal addresses?

Question for Paul...

Hi Paul, is there a way to simply delete an ad? I was only able to figure out how to "edit" or mark as "sold?"

Probably just operator head-space on my part...

I like the new classifieds a lot. The only feature I can't use is the PayPal options because my TDPRI registration address is different than my PayPal address.

Well, there's not much I can do about that EXCEPT....
you could create a new TDPRI username with that PayPal email address and log on using that username whenever you want to place an ad. Then simply log out and log back in with your regular TDPRI username.

It's not a big deal. I don't mind invoicing people. Personally I'd rather have my profile info from this username showing when I post in the classified anyways. It shows how active I am on the forums etc.

The bottom line is the features are great, and the ads look really nice.

Nice work, Paul

Paul, I like the new garage sale, especially the "dealer ad" feature. There's a lot of good people here who are commercial to some extent, so it's good to have their stuff advertised here, too. $2 per ad is *very* reasonable.

One thought: Is there any way to "save" a user's view? Right now, here's how I like to look at the ads:
1) Click the "Classifieds" button on the TDPRI.
2) Click "all ads" under the search box.
3) Sort by "Most Recent".

I think that gives me a similar view as the old classifieds section (almost like the discussion board itself where new posts "float" to the top). Anyway, it would be nice if I just had to click the "Classifieds" button and it remembered my spot. Though I could probably just bookmark THIS LINK and get the same result.

Great work, Paul. You're the best.

Why not just change your TDPRI email address to be the same as your paypal address...or change your Paypal email address to match the TDPRI email address...I think either option is "do-able".

Well, that is the way to do it. Save a link.

I'll be adding RSS to the Classifieds next week sometime probably, and you could put a RSS Reader on your desktop. It will check for new addtions for you automatically. But that may be more than what you want.

Thanks
Paul
