mexico vs. indonesia
hello everybody, here is a little experience i would like to share. for a couple of years i owned a fender texmex strat. i used it mainly as a backup. one thing bugged me totally about the guitar: all the routing was done so "dirty": it looked like the factory let all the sawdust and stuff inside the guitar and just sprayed the paint over it. this unclean workmanship bothered me more and more and i waved the guitar a heartfelt "hasta la vista baby!" then i got me a squier custom 2 telecaster. first thing i did with this guitar was open it up to seen how it looked on the inside. nice surprise: all routing done very clean, the "hole" is painted with some kind of gray shielding. very good.
i donīt really know about other mexican fenders, but i hope for them that the workmanship has gotten better. the asian workers really seem to know what they do. |

same here
Hi
I got more or less the same experience. But on the other hand my custom (also indonesian) had a pickguard screwed on so that one of the pickup wires was caught between the body and pickguard. Easily fixed and not a major issue, but indicates that they also have their mondaymorning issues. Overall I can say that I have never held a mexican made fender that 'talked' to me, never inspired GAS in any way. As with the custom it was love at first sight. I'm also having problems selecting a good MIA. Never had problems with finding a nice MIJ. And bought the first MII I got my hands on 8) But that s just my 5 eurocents. It all comes down to finding a good one, regardless of where it is made. Vincent

I have a Korean FMT Tele that sounds and plays great, but it's a little shy on the details when you look closely at it.

I agree but
there is a big difference in price. In europe the choice is often limited anyway. If I was looking for a MII custom, it could prove to be hard to find. Same holds for MIM.
For what its worth, I'm not disappointed with the looks of my custom, but I do see your point. Vincent PS and what about soccer... PPS yes I'm dutch

I saw the title of the thread and thought the World Cup had started, as well. Why couldn't the US have drawn Indonesia?
I'd never thought about it, but besides MIA models, where do most Fenders sold in Europe come from?

good question.
haven't bought new in a while but i assumed that the "standard" was mexico still. the majority of the classics and reissues were japanese and the squires were mostly indonesian but i could be wrong. :? did you know the national sport of indonesia is badmindon? terimah kasih.
