Set up my Tele for slide - questions.

My Squire Standard has always had a nut that was cut too high and rather than fit a new one I raised the action and tuned to G & hey presto a blisteringly good slide gittar!

Now I've got to learn slide and playing in G.

Has anyone else set one of their Tele's for slide and what guage strings do you recommend? I'm presuming the heavier the better?

Tele slide

I put on 12's (I normally use 10's) and tuned my Guild T-250 to open D for slide just recently. The bridge PU tone is incredible with the thicker strings (the neck PU is a bit weak on this guitar). I use an old hollowed-out spark plug wrench for the slide, in my ring finger. I have no slide chops, but they seem pretty easy to get a hang of in this tuning. Blues can be fun!

12's plus I raised the action even higher. Also, our singer likes A better than G so I use open A...no problems so far with the extra tension.
Only problem I ever seem to have is the top E is very sensitive to a good nut and doesn't give as much bite as the other strings.
