![]() There's something interesting about this group that I just noticed today. Click on the link below for the large shot, and let's see who's got the sharp eyes. Besides the color, one of these '02 teles is not like the others... http://mywebpages.comcast.net/tspell...arteles2lg.jpg |

Looks like the green one still have the pickguard plastic ...............and it does look like it could be mahogany.

Very sharp, Maestro!
Yep, this is odd. The original spec sheet for these car color thinlines stated that the bodies were mahogany. Yet it seems that most of them are ash. So I thought the spec sheet was simply in error. While I got the surf green a few weeks ago, I've barely touched it, so I hadn't even noticed it was mahogany until today. The candy apple red I have on the way is definitely ash. These guitars were all made in 2002. I think the surf green may be earlier production than the others, based on the serial number, but I'm not sure if that's reliable. This only adds to the slightly mysterious nature of these guitars. |

Ah yes, thank you for taking the trouble. I'm sticking to the MIMs for this collection, though. That one for ~$3k just wouldn't fit in. :)
And btw, if anyone finds the one on the Chambers Guitars site, I appreciate it, but they don't actually have any. :( |

Answer 1:
I need a reason? :). Seriously, the five "car color" '69RIs were limited editions made in October/November of 2002 (and possibly thereafter.) How limited is a mystery, but it has been suggested that there were 100 made of each. There may have been more, it's hard to say. They aren't exactly plentiful, that's for sure. I've never seen anyone put together a collection of all five colors (although I'd be surprised if no one has done it). I'm speculating as to how a complete collection will do valuewise in the coming years. And the other reason is that I like thinlines and these are cool. Here's a link to the spec sheet I swiped from another post on TDPRI: http://mywebpages.comcast.net/tspell...9LimitedEd.jpg Answer 2: I haven't really done a back-to-back comparison with these, so I can't answer that one yet. |
