What is the Aerodyne Tele about?... Nice one on ebay..
I really like the looks of this Tele and the fact that it is made in japan. I also like the fact that it has a P90 type pickup in the neck postion.
Can someone give me the skinny on this? I wouldn't mind bidding on it. Thanks http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7386458895&rd=1&sspage name=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&rd=1[/url]

Odd...the new 'link shortener' isn't working.
Anyway... I tried one in a shop and I loved it. It was well-made and very playable. The contoured body was very comfy and I liked the neck. Was pretty lightweight, too. But I kind of consider it a 'tele derivitive' guitar rather than a tele. But whatever it is, it's a nice design IMO. |

You can buy a brand new one and not have to pay shipping for $599.
I played a few of these with widely varying results. There was one at a music store in Long Island NY that was truly amazing. I almost bought it on the spot. It sounded great and the 7 1/4" Freatboard radius was very comfortable with the medium jumbo frets. Two others I played weren't nearly as good in the sound department. If I were you, I'd just buy a brand new one.

Thanks,
I will take your advice and pass on bidding. How ever there is four hours left and no bids. A man may get it for $345.00 plus the shipping.

had one
I loved the looks, the neck was a bit thin for my tastes, did like the P90 and Tele bridge set up, very cool IMHO.
I may build my own one day and use some really good pu's. If you get a chance try one out , you might like it. |

There was one of those at the local guitar shop near my home.
I would probably buy it if it wasn't for that P90 in the neck position. I don't like the sound of a a P90, and they just look tacky.

re P90 -different strokes for different folks

I've played a couple P90 Teles, they sounded great to me, depends on what you're looking for of course, it's not a traditional Tele sound. |

I've got one. It plays very well, has a good acoustic sound, is comfy, and just looks darn cool. If it pisses off the Tele purists, so much the better.
I've completely rewired it (big improvement) and played a lot with different pickup combinations. The stock switch is, indeed, crapola. I do like P-90s (why would you even look at an Aerodyne, much less comment about one, if you didn't?) With the right one, you can get awesome growl & jazz warmth with just a twist of the volume knob. The trick is finding pickups that match, since P-90s are so much higher output than stock Tele pickups. Also, P-90s are usually run with 500k pots; the Aerodyne has 250k pots. This can be less than helpful for your P-90. Right now, my Aerodyne has a Lollar P-90 in the neck & a Lollar Vintage in the bridge. Nice combo, but the contrast in pickups is a bit more than I want. Because thebridge pickup is so bright, the perceived volume difference isn't as much as one would expect. I've got a Fralin Steelpole 42 on the way -- I'm going to try that & see how it goes with the P-90. The other thing I might try is installing 500k pots, and putting a resistor across the bridge pickup, so it 'thinks' it's going to a 250k pot. while the P-90 goes straight through to the 500k pot, no problem. One last thing: if you do get one & replace the pots, you need pots with a .375" bushing; standard Fender pots with a .25" bushing won't fit. You'll also have to widen the holes to fit the larger shafts, but that's not hard to do with a round file. All in all, I think it's a very cool guitar, and I've learned lot from playing & modding mine. So, there....more than you ever wanted to know about the Aerodyne Tele.
