Identify this telecaster

Hi Folks.

A co-worker of mine is selling a mint, black, made in USA, 3 pick-up fender telecaster. The serial #N834XXXX suggests its a 98/99 MIA. Everything I have "googled" comes up MIM Nashville Deluxe. The saddles looks like the modern fender/wilkinson type of my American std strat. The neck pickup is a lipstick type marked 048609, the mid is a blonde strat style 016730, the bridge is black with pole pieces like the middle. The solder joints all look factory clean. These are not lace sensors. When he bought this guitar, he was told the original tuners had been changed to locking type (fender/shaler?) My main concern is, this is a MIA neck on MIM body. If you have any thoughts or comments, I would appreciate it.

thx.

Could be a black American Deluxe, although I don't remember black being an available color at the time. Does it have a toggle switch on the control plate? If it doesn't, it's not a '98 Am dlx.

ADDED: It did come in black. Also look for the contoured back and abalone dots on the fretboard. Oh, yeah, and it should be top-bound.

If it's any help, I have a 1996 Mexican Tele, and the serial number starts with MN.

From your description, it does sound like a 1998 MIA neck attached to a Nashville body (chrome - white - black p'ups).

If the price is right that would be a very nice Tele, but I would consider it to be a Nashville (MIM) with an upgrade neck.

Thanks for the replies.

This tele has neither a toggle switch, contoured back or binding.

According to the fender web site, MN and MZ identifies MIM.

The price is $1100 CAN. A little pricey for a MIM with an upgrade neck.
