I need to complete my Albert Collins tele
I have pretty much searched everywhere locally for the prism tape that Albert had on top of his ashtray. Can find it. When I was a kid in the 70s, I used to race large scale slot cars and it was very easy to find. If anyone knows of a local hobby shop that has it at least 3 inches wide, I would gladly make it worth your time to help me out.
Thanks. |

Don't have an answer
But if I were looking, I'd Try Hobby Lobby the local Pep Boy's, Oreillys or and any large Truck Stop on the Interstate. Truckers love this kinda stuff. That's where I heard that SRV used to get his reflective SRV letters. BTW, GOT A CAPO?
I think this is what you want but not for $209.14 at www.marine.com 3M SCOTCHLITE REFLECTIVE SHEETING HIGH INTENSITY SOLAS GRADE 3150A ![]() I did get some of this stuf from a Sign Shop that custom makes Advertising signs. I had them cut some reflective numbers for my Grandson's old Pedal Car. They usually keep this stuff in stock and can sell you however much you want. They can cut any shape of lettering or whatever with a computer. ![]()

Bones...that aint tape!!!!
What you see on Alberts ashtray is not tape. It is milled/burnish markings. It was a common practice in machine shops back in the old days. The markings can be made by chucking a wooden dowel with the end covered with sand paper or scotchbrite abrasive pad. You pull the burnisher down onto the metal part while it is turning which makes a circular pattern. You scoot over 1/2 of the diameter of the dowel and repeat over and over. Each one overlaps the one next to it and the effect is created. Try it on a piece of sheet metal first and you will get the hang of it.

That look was definitely prismatic sticker. Swirled burnish marks just look like circular burnish marks and don't give you the refractive effect.

Bones B Right
My apologies Mr. B! I checked my photos of Albert, even watched my favorite video again and you are 100% correct. My intent was to help, not be a wise-a. I really thought I had a silver bullet for your problem. Sorry for the confusion.
Humbled by the facts again, Rob |
