Made in Germany Telecaster?

Does anyone have any info or pointers on a 1970s Tele copy by Hoyer in Germany? One has come up here for sale in Aus and can be seen at http://www.grouseguitars.com.au/hoyertele.htm

What are they like? Has anyone owned or tried one? :?

Feedback appreciated!

Cheers, and twang on!

The brand "Hoyer" gets very good reviews on various models "harmony central"...the model you got there isn't with it...(at first view)
But it seems to be a good brand
And it looks great

Don't buy it!!!

I just checked the price for this Hoyer Tele & it is waaaaaaaaay too high. Don't buy it.
While the Hoyer Tele may be a decent guitar (although I think it looks awfull with the huge metal parts etc.),
they sell for something like 150 - 250 € over here on Ebay Germany.
So even with shipping from Germany, it would be less than half the price, compared to the one in your link.

They are second to none worldwide.

Actualy I like the Hoyer Tele.
It doesn't have Class ... maybe ... but it does have Style. Look how they designed the bridge ...

That is a neat lookin Toploader bridge.

Price is far overrated - but it is an older guitar Down Under.

About a month ago I bought this (Dutch) Egmond Telestar from 1968. Those pu's deliver a nice warm sound.

BTW - On the website where the Hoyer is on display they also sell very beautiful guitarstraps too ... WOW ...
They even used the Hoyer as a 'mannequin' to advertise this strap ... That is a Real OutLaw Strap! Rock & Rattle ..!

Hmmm, ~ $US700 or € 600. Freight/insurance is probably € 250 from Europe and add in import duty presume anything up to € 100. It would be a close-run thing. At least you could economically return the Australian one.

The only thing is: by the late 60's competition was inducing all the German makers - Hofner, Framus, Hoyer - to import solidbodies from Japan which replaced things like the Coloramas and Stratos which were copies of Fender/Gibson anyhow. I bet this guitar doesn't say "Made in ____" anywhere on it. In the 80's there were Hofners from Korea - probably Samick.

Ibanez exports from Japan usually had no markings in around 1974 unless a Maxon pickup inside said MIJ. There were no serial numbers or often even logos like on this '73 catalogue model 2352 Ibanez Tele. Not until the US importer started stamping them in 1976 could you ID a year.

This smacks of a late 60's Fuji Gen-Kakki copy because of the metal trussrod cover which Ibanez Fender copies used until 1976 or so. Plus although the pickguard, neckplate and control plate look dicky, by the early 70's they'd cleaned this up. Notice on this Ibanez the similar Jaguar/Bigsby-Tele-style bridge, and Ibanez used the squarish lipstick covers on their copies for both bridge and neck pickups. Note also the LP toggle and jack on control plate on both. These guitars would have had an ashtray to cover the dodgy-looking bridges and pickups.

Is the age correct?

Can anyone advise of its correct age? Is it in fact an early 70s? Its mojo has me intrigued!

Plus I see they are getting in an "Ariana" '60s Japanese Tele - any experience with these?

That webpage can be seen here

After a lifetime playing and amassing 'real' Telecasters these ugly brothers are starting to fascinate me! Is there an effective cure?

Twang on!
