"Named" Guitars

I was listening to some B.B. King the other day and I got to thinking about Lucille and then Roy's "Nancy". Which then lead to ...

Are there any other famous "named" guitars?

and..

Do any of you fellow members name your guitars?

I think my favorite famous named guitar would have to be Clarence White of course belonging to Marty Stuart.

Personally, I have to name my guitars. Number One (Yamaha Pacifica) is my only guitar without a lady's name.
Lindsay (Epi Nighthawk), Megan (partscaster), Jodie (Washburn acoustic), Samantha (Amer Deluxe Strat), Lizzie (Nashville Tele w/ Lace Sensors), Joey (Epi Joe Pass), Rosalita (Gretsch Sparkle 61RI), Rachael ('69 335), and Allyson (Nash Tele w/ Piezo). Haven't named my banjo or mando yet.

I'm surprised you haven't heard of them. :D

Famous ones include:

Clapton's "Blackie"
Albert King's "Lucy"
Jimmy Thackery's "Mergatroid"
Yngwie Malmsteen's "The Duck"
SRV's "Lenny"

I used to name mine, but I stopped doing that about 10 years ago. Six of my current 11 instruments have no name. My Les Paul is named "Snow Dog" and my Taylor acoustic is named "Woody." When I got my first mandolin, I named it "Arlo."

My tele is called Mavis. So far, the Alvarez, Blueridge, Pro-Tone Strat, and the new Telecoustic just haven't earned a name for themselves yet.

Well, Les Paul named his Gibson guitar, "Les Paul". EVH has "5150", and Steve Vai has "Bad Horsie" and "Evo"...

My Telecaster is "Rachel", my Taylor 355CE is "Madeleine", and my Strat is "Caroline". I don't have names for my Taylor 410E, MTD Kingston, Takamine CD132sc, and my Kentucky A-style mandolin. My Les Paul DOESN'T deserve a nickname!

My #1 became Ginger after a long email thread in which (old TDPRI-er) TBone and I anthropomorphized her into a trailer park queen/trashy diner waitress named Shirley. After she got to me I made her a little more sophisticated and she became Ginger. That's the only guitar I've ever really named, and it seemed so natural that it stuck.

I think of my Guild acoustic as "Amber" sometimes, but the guitar doesn't have as much personality as Ginger so I don't really use the name, and often don't even think of it.

FWIW, BB gets a new "Lucille" from Gibson every couple of years, and Albert called many guitars "Lucy." One of which was a gawdawful custom flying V with a carved top and sparkly pinky/purply paint job that looked like it would have been much more at home in the P-Funk band than at an Albert King gig. This was the guitar that his estate donated to the Chess Records museum at 2120 S. Michigan.

It was kind of like learning that there's no Santa Claus when I found out that BB gets new Lucilles. I always imagined him as the kind of guy that played one guitar that he was faithful to, until death do them part. I had to think real hard to figure out what guitar he was playing after he gave Lucille to the pope.

Bruce's old partscaster is called "the Esquire", "old lady" or just "my guitar". I call my guitar Leilani because of the decal of the hawaiian girl on the back...

My White Tele is called "Grace" after Jeff Buckleys album of the same title, he was the reason I wanted a white tele in the first place.

I hear Yngwie Malmsteen calls his guitar Yngwie and kisses and spoons it at night! Just a rumour?

That's hilarious.
A mirrored pickguard would complete the picture.
My beloved ES-125 TCD that I had to sell during my last bout with unemployment was Josephine, after the Bo Diddley song.

Don't know any more famous ones.

All my electrics have names:

Lester--Les Paul Standard
Goldie--Tokai Goldtop
Sonny--Sunburst Tele Custom
Red--Redburst ASAT Classic

Not creative, but much very concise.

Don't know why the Acoustics remain nameless.

P.

Jerry's guitars all had names. There was Alligator, Wolf, Rosebud, Tiger. I don't think he named them. I think either the luthier and/or the fans named his guitars.

Alligator

I named my Strat Sirius Black

"i think i am gonna bring the red tele", etc.

The thinline i call "the thinline"

They never talk back, and the never pick up the tab
and they don't do the dishes.

I don't give names cause they aint people (hee hee), tho i like them better than some people i can think of.

If my tele ever restrings itself, i will gladly give it a name.
